Know the name: cychlorphine.

This emerging synthetic opioid is now appearing in the illicit drug supply, including in counterfeit pills and mixtures containing other drugs.

What you need to know:

• Cychlorphine may be significantly more potent than fentanyl.
• Someone may be exposed without knowing it’s present.
• Fentanyl test strips do not detect cychlorphine.
• Narcan (naloxone) can still reverse an overdose involving cychlorphine, although multiple doses may be needed.
• Always call 911 if you suspect an overdose.

The substances showing up in the drug supply continue to change. That means education, access to Narcan and conversations about the risks of counterfeit pills matter more than ever.

There’s a new synthetic opioid showing up in the illicit drug supply, and we need our community to know its name: cychlorphine.

Cychlorphine has already been linked to more than 130 overdose deaths across the country. Experts estimate it may be up to 10 times stronger than fentanyl, and it has been found in both pill and powder form, sometimes mixed with fentanyl or he**in.

One of the biggest concerns? People may not know they’re being exposed to it, and standard fentanyl test strips do not detect cychlorphine. Narcan can still reverse an opioid overdose involving cychlorphine, but multiple doses may be needed.

Dr. Alex Krotulski, Director of Toxicology and Chemistry at the Center for Forensic Science Research and Education, breaks down what we currently know about this emerging drug in this interview from SciLine.

A meaningful new addition has found its home at Hatchery Park. 💖

Surrounded by nature, Cassidy’s memorial bench offers a peaceful place to sit, reflect and remember a life that continues to make an impact through Forever Joy.

The funds raised at this year’s Barn Dance are allowing Forever Joy to continue growing its mission through community outreach, overdose awareness, education, speaking opportunities, supporting other organizations and meaningful projects like this one.

Every ticket purchased, donation made, sponsorship given and person who showed up for the Barn Dance becomes part of that work. This bench is something you can physically see, but your support reaches so much further.

Forever Joy continues to share Cassidy’s story with the hope that it starts important conversations, provides knowledge, reaches young people and families, and ultimately helps save lives. Her memory and her story are at the heart of it all. 💖

Cassidy should still be here. Sitting in it. Laughing with the people who love her. Living the life that was still ahead of her.

Empty Chair Day is a powerful reminder that behind every statistic is a person. A face. A family. A seat at the table that will never be filled the same way again.

For Forever Joy, this is why we continue to speak her name, share her story, educate our communities, and fight for awareness. Cassidy’s chair may be empty, but her impact is not.

Today and every day, we remember Cassidy. We remember every life lost too soon. And we will keep doing the work in their honor. 💗

That’s what YOU helped raise at this year’s Forever Joy Barn Dance, and we want you to know what comes next.

First, thank you. To every person who attended, donated, volunteered, sponsored, shared our mission or supported the Barn Dance in any way, this is what your generosity makes possible.

Forever Joy has recently donated $5,000 to Greater Hayward House of Hope to support their mission as a Christ-centered rehabilitation ministry helping men overcome life-controlling addiction issues and rebuild healthy, purposeful lives.

We have big plans for continuing to grow our outreach! We’re currently working toward a billboard on Highway 53, getting more Forever Joy yard signs into our communities, reaching out directly to school administrators about opportunities to speak with students, and continuing to share Cassidy’s story wherever it can make a difference. We’re also beginning to expand that outreach beyond Wisconsin, including opportunities to speak in Illinois.

Yesterday, Kim was at the courthouse for a presentation on Overdose Awareness, continuing the conversations at the heart of why Forever Joy exists.

The Barn Dance may be over, but the work that comes from it is just beginning.

Every dollar raised gives Forever Joy another opportunity to educate, advocate, create awareness, reach someone who needs to hear Cassidy’s story and continue turning her memory into something that helps others.

This is terrifying.

Cyclorphine is a newly emerging synthetic opioid being reported in California, and officials are warning that people may be exposed to it without even realizing it’s present. Reports suggest it may be significantly more potent than fentanyl.

Sharing because awareness matters. What shows up elsewhere has a way of eventually making its way into our own communities. Please talk to your kids, your friends and the people you love. Know what’s out there and take this seriously.
