We’re excited to share that National Kitten College, in collaboration with University at California, Davis, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Florida, has launched a new resource for anyone caring for underaged kittens.

This “living library” is designed to be a true game changer-bringing together the latest, evidence-based information in neonatal and young kitten care, with real-time updates as new insights emerge. It’s an invaluable tool for both fosters and shelter staff working to give these vulnerable kittens the best possible start.

🏈🐾 FRIDAY MORNING CHECK-IN! 🐾Happy Friday, everyone! We made it to the end of another work week, the weekend is in sight, and for a lot of local families that means Friday night football! 🏈

Keeping with the animal theme around here, the Havelock High School Rams take on the New Bern High School Bears at home tonight. Yes, it's a different set of animals, but these animals need your support tonight, and the ones at Animal Control need your support too! 🐏🐻🐶🐱

It's always a great rivalry, and I'll be there tonight cheering on the Rams! 💙💛

On the flip side, there are plenty of cats and dogs at Havelock Animal Control who could use a little attendance themselves. They need people to come see them, spend some time with them, play with them, and hopefully give them what they're really waiting for... a family and home of their own. ❤️🏠

It's pretty simple. Call Havelock Animal Control at (252) 444-2712, set up a time, and go visit.

Spend some time with them. Meet a few. And if one decides you're their person, well... congratulations, you've apparently been drafted. 😂🐾

You went there to "just look." Sure you did.

🐾❤️ HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY! ❤️🐾

Today, August 26th, is National Dog Day, so naturally we're going to talk about dogs. As if most of us needed another excuse. 😂🐶

National Dog Day was started in 2004 by animal rescue advocate Colleen Paige and celebrates all dogs... purebred, mixed breed, big, small, young, old, couch potatoes, professional sock thieves, and the ones who somehow take up 90% of the bed despite weighing 20 pounds.

But there's an important reason behind today, too: encouraging adoption and recognizing the countless dogs in shelters and rescues still waiting for families of their own. ❤️

And we happen to know a place with some dogs who would probably be pretty happy to see you.

They give us loyalty, companionship, laughs, comfort, fur on absolutely everything we own, and a kind of unconditional love that's pretty hard to beat.

🐾❤️ Sunday Afternoon Check-In! ❤️🐾

Happy Sunday, everyone! We hope you've had a great weekend.

For our Craven County families, school starts tomorrow! 🚌📚 And after weeks of sports practices and rehearsals, now we get to add school, homework, games, forgotten lunchboxes, and the inevitable “I need this for school TODAY!” announcement at 6:30 a.m. 😂

Once the kids are dropped off, if you have some free time, consider calling Havelock Animal Control and setting up a time to visit. There are plenty of cats and dogs who could use some attention and love, and you might just meet one who ends up becoming the newest member of your family. 🐶🐱❤️

We’re also still awaiting word from the City of Havelock regarding a possible official City-run volunteer program at Animal Control. We look forward to seeing what the City decides and what opportunities may become available for members of the community who want to volunteer, help the animals, and provide additional support to the Animal Control Officers.

If the City moves forward with an official program, our understanding is that it would include applications, screening, and background checks, which we believe would be a valuable addition for Animal Control, its volunteers, and the animals.

And one reminder as we head into another week: keep doing good, stay positive, and don't let anyone knock you off course. Not everyone will understand or support your success, and that's okay. You don't need everyone's approval to make a difference.

Stay focused on your purpose. Keep your head up. Let your actions speak for themselves. ❤️🐾

🐾❤️ Monday Check-In ❤️🐾

We're getting a little bit of a late start today. It was a busy weekend, and today's already been pretty busy too, but we wanted to stop in, say hi, and hope everyone is doing well.

More importantly, we wanted to remind you just how much we love and appreciate all of you.

Words really can't express how thankful we are for every single follower and every single person who has supported Havelock Animals Association and our mission since August of last year. Whether you've donated, volunteered, bought something from our store, attended an event, shared a post, liked or commented, or simply helped us spread the word, you've been part of this.

HAA may be run by just two disabled Marine veterans volunteering our time, but you all helped build this organization. ❤️

Now it's a brand-new week, so let's make the best of it.

Call Havelock Animal Control at (252) 444-2712 and set up a time to visit with some of the animals. 🐶🐱

This time of year always brings an overabundance of cats and kittens, so who knows... a kitty might just be in your future. Just remember, you don't actually adopt a cat. A cat selects its staff, moves into your house, and gradually assumes control of the entire operation. 😹

Bottom line: do something that matters this week.

Sometimes you'll succeed. Sometimes you'll hit obstacles. Sometimes you'll run straight into a roadblock you never expected.

But remember this:

The roadblocks you encounter don't define you. They often tell you far more about where they're coming from than where you're going.

Keep moving forward. Keep doing what you know is right. And don't let somebody else's obstacle become the end of your road.

Be safe. Stay cool. Stay hydrated. ☀️💧

And please take care of your pets, especially those that spend time outdoors. Make sure they have plenty of fresh water, shade, and a cool place to get out of this heat.

🐾❤️ Happy Friday, HAA Family! ❤️🐾

It's been a few days since we've checked in, so we wanted to pop in and wish everyone a great Friday and an even better weekend!

There are still animals waiting at Havelock Animal Control for their opportunity to find a safe, loving, furever home. They don't know about schedules, policies, Facebook, or anything else happening in the human world.

They just know they're waiting. ❤️

So as we head into the weekend, let's keep the focus where it belongs: on the animals. 🐶🐱
