Riverside Club Renovation & Restoration

Riverside Club Renovation & Restoration The Riverside Club is available to rent to our community! Meyer family. It was used as the USO Club during WWII by the soldiers of nearby Camp Ellis.

The Riverside Renovation & Restoration (RRR) Committee is made up of concerned citizens that are dedicated to the purpose of revitalizing one of Havana's well know landmarks. The building that we know as the Riverside Club was built between the years of 1869 to 1875 by the George T. The building was purchased in 1921 by the Havana Riverside Club, a group of prominent businessmen in Havana. The fac

ility was purchased in 1936 by the U & I Club (the Utilities & Interest Club, now the Havana Women's Club) as a clubhouse. At a later date, the building was purchased by the Havana High School Alumni and held Beethoven Society meetings at the location. The City of Havana purchased the building in the 1970's. Since that time, the building has provided meals for our Seniors, hosted the Mason County Arts Council art fairs and "Eagle Days" art shows. The Riverside Club has been rented for so many different special occasions and gatherings in the past, the building has a long history of social importance to the people of Havana and the surrounding area. Please view our FAQs post for more information or give us a call at City Hall!

As August is wrapping up, we are all feeling so lucky to have hosted so many great events here in Historic Havana this summer, one of those being the Riverfront Concert Series.

This event series was a first here in Havana and went over wonderfully. These three concerts all were scheduled to take place at the Riverfront Stage with the Riverside Club being the home base for artist's & their equipment. Only one of these concerts had to be moved due to inclement weather - we were fortunate enough to have still been able to have the show at Stella Mae's Coffee Shop.

We would like to give many thanks to Black Dirt Records, Kim & Ed Anderson, April Burgett - Chamber of Commerce President, Brenda & Scott Haare for hosting our second concert, Chicago Farmer, The Deep Hollow, Havana Park District for hosting the events at the Riverfront, the Illinois Arts Council Agency for the federal funds, Fulton County Septic, CassComm, Two Rivers Art Council, a big thanks to everyone involved in Riverside Club for letting us use it for the artists and Community Foundation of Central Illinois. Lastly, THANK YOU to all who came out to support this event series.

It truly takes a village to make something so special happen in our wonderful, up and coming, small town. Don't worry, if you missed out on these concerts, we are already looking forward to planning something like this again next summer!

Enjoy these photos from our June, July & August concerts.

Riverside Club then & now:

The first photo we believe was taken in the early 1900s with Helene Meyer Yaeger standing in front of the home.

The second photo was taken in November of 2020.

We are so lucky to have been able to preserve and save the original architecture and structure of the Meyer family home!

I will be posting more of the history of the Riverside Club and how it came to be! Special thanks to the Meyer family for sharing their photos and information on the original home and family!
