Service has a rhythm of its own. 💃🏽🇨🇴

Between long clinic hours, patient care, and stories that stay with you forever, there are also moments like this... laughter, music, movement, and the beautiful reminder that humanity connects us beyond language or borders.

Dr. Angela María Cabrejo Martinez shares her journey across humanitarian medical missions in El Salvador, Colombia, Nigeria, Uganda, and beyond in SU2P’s latest Substack essay, “La Moneda de la Compasión es una Sonrisa.”

Because sometimes healing looks like dentistry. And sometimes it looks like dancing after a long day of serving others.

El servicio tiene su propio ritmo. 💃🏽🇨🇴

First and foremost, I want to thank the Lord for blessing me with the opportunity to serve and uplift my community. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Barbara Raymond of the Black Chamber of Commerce for recognizing my work, as well as the Islip Town Councilman Jorge Guadron, to the Islip Smithtown NAACP, my family, WTMJ Church, and the SU2P families for their unwavering support and encouragement. Without their love, trust, and confidence in me, I would not be able to continue serving. This recognition is truly a reflection of our collective teamwork and shared commitment to the community.

This Mother’s Day, we honor the strength, resilience, and love of mothers everywhere, especially those at the heart of the communities we serve.
From ensuring their children are cared for, to standing in long lines for access to healthcare, to holding families together through uncertainty—mothers show us what it means to lead with love.
At SU2P, we see their impact every day. And we remain committed to supporting them with the care, resources, and dignity they deserve.
Today, we celebrate you. 💛

Be a good human, right where you are… and beyond.

During our time in Uganda, we witnessed something powerful—
that impact doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful.
Sometimes, it reaches one heart at a time.

What if the smallest act of care in your neighborhood could echo across generations?

This is what impact really looks like—
not just programs or initiatives, but moments.
Connection. Joy. Dignity restored in the simplest ways.

From shared smiles to creative expression,
from health to education to presence—
this is how change begins, one act at a time.

Not someday. Not far away.
But right here—in the hands we choose to hold
and the communities we choose to serve.

Because when we invest in people today,
we are shaping the world our children—and their children—will inherit.

This is the work.
This is the mission.
This is impact in motion.

Compassion is action.

If you believe in this mission, there are ways to stand with us both online at standuptopoverty.org and in the work we carry forward.
