BREAKING🚨🏳️‍🌈 A New Jersey school district is paying $950,000 after a transgender student died by su***de following years of bullying — and staff did nothing.

Myles Fitzpatrick came out as transgender in December 2020, while classes at Manville High were still fully virtual. When students came back in person in September 2021, classmates misgendered him, called him slurs, told him he "would never be a male," pushed him into lockers, kicked him, threw things at him and pulled his hair, according to the wrongful death lawsuit his mother filed in Somerset County Superior Court. Some of that happened in front of teachers and staff who did not intervene.

In 2021 Myles was given permission to change for gym in the faculty lounge restroom or the nurse's office, because the boys' locker room had become one of the places he was targeted. The school took that accommodation away "without explanation," the lawsuit says, and put him back in the locker room.

He began cutting himself, some of it at school. On at least one occasion he sat in class with bloody sleeves and educators took no action, the suit alleges. His mother, Danielle Warshefski, complained to his counselor. She asked whether he could switch to virtual classes or be homeschooled. That request was denied.

Myles died by su***de on November 7, 2022. He was a senior, months from graduating. He left behind his mother, his stepfather, four siblings and his cat, Simba.
