Back to school means more than new classrooms, new schedules and new beginnings. It also means making sure students know they are never alone. 💚

On August 27, Sharing Kindness hosted a Hope Squad training led by Master Trainer Nic Bur, welcoming four more schools into the Hope Squad community:

Tisbury School
Dennis-Yarmouth Middle School
Nauset Regional Middle School
Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School

The training also prepared 30 new Hope Squad advisors to help bring evidence-based su***de prevention programming directly into their school communities.

With these additions, Sharing Kindness now supports Hope Squad programming in 18 schools across Cape Cod & the Islands.

As students head back to school, we are proud to help build communities where young people are empowered to look out for one another, speak up when someone is struggling, and connect their peers with trusted adults and support.

Here’s to a school year filled with connection, kindness and hope. 💚

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month. 💜

At Sharing Kindness, we know that su***de prevention begins long before a moment of crisis.

It begins when someone feels seen.
When grief has a place to go.
When young people know they are not alone.
When families and communities have the tools to talk openly about loss, mental health, and hope.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing resources, stories, education, and ways we can all help build communities where people feel supported and connected.

Because awareness matters. Conversation matters. Connection matters.

And while Su***de Prevention Awareness Month begins today, our commitment to this work continues every single day of the year.

If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Grief is never easy — but it can help to connect with others who understand your experiences.

Our peer grief support groups, offered at no cost to participants, provide a judgment-free space to share your story and support others who are grieving, too. Through conversation, hope and healing can grow.

Our programs begin in September and are open for registration. Learn more at https://sharingkindness.org/programs-and-events/peer-grief-support/

This , we're shining a light on childhood bereavement. A few years ago, Judi’s House/JAG provided CBEM (Childhood Bereavement Estimation Model) data for Sharing Kindness specific to Barnstable County, and what we discovered was staggering: according to that 2023 data, 1 in 9 children were estimated to experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18.

Signficant loss impacts a child's education and daily life. That's why we provide grief support groups in local schools, free of charge, to meet youth where they are and provide a path to hope and healing. The most important part? Meeting peers who are going through grief, just like them, so the journey feels a little less lonely.

There are many ways we can help to prevent su***de, but that does not mean that every su***de is preventable. Su***de prevention focuses on reducing risk, strengthening protective factors, and ensuring people have access to compassionate support when they need it most. 💜🩵
