Twain lived here from 1874 to 1891 with his wife Olivia and their three daughters. Twain wrote many of his enduring masterpieces while he lived here, including Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Announcing the 2026 Shortlist for the Mark Twain American Voice in Literature Award (MTAVL). Celebrating its tenth year, the award celebrates fiction that tells American stories in a uniquely American voice. From a curated Longlist of 30 books chosen from 127 submissions, we are thrilled to present the Shortlist of ten remarkable books.

The award winner will be announced in September and this year, the celebration will include an award dinner on November 6 and a day-long symposium on Creativity in the Age of AI on November 7. Learn more at https://marktwainaward.org/2026-avl-weekend

Mark your calendars for the 11th Annual Bark Twain Bash! It’s the Cat’s Meow joint fundraising event will be held at the museum (351 Farmington Avenue in Hartford, CT) on Saturday, September 12 at 6pm.

This fun, festive and furry evening honors individuals and organizations working in animal rescue, K9 law enforcement, animal control, and animal-related arts and activism. The Bark Twain Bash, co-hosted by WFSB’s Renee DiNino (Hello Connecticut) and Kenway’s Cause, features delicious food from sponsor RastaRant, a cash bar, vendors, a silent auction, and many surprises.
