Connecticut Invention Convention

The CIC is the nation’s oldest continuously operating children’s invention competition.

The Connecticut Invention Convention is a program of NextMinds and a partner program of the Massachusetts Invention Convention. CIC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational program designed to develop and enhance critical thinking skills in children in grades K-8 through invention, innovation and entrepreneurship, while encouraging interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

No STEM background needed! All volunteers and judges must be 18 years or older. Volunteers may be asked to complete a brief online background check at the CIC's expense. Light breakfast and lunch is provided.

In honor of the upcoming 2026 Connecticut Invention Convention State Finals events, we're celebrating our winning inventors from last year's competition!

⭐ Today, we celebrate the 2025 winner of The Delilah Van Ness Award for Independent Inventors and Innovators.

This special award honors the memory of Delilah Van Ness, a beloved Independent Inventor and cherished member of the CIC community. Known for her vibrant spirit, boundless creativity, and unwavering dedication to innovation, Delilah’s contributions have left a lasting impact. This award is selected and presented by Delilah's family to an Independent Inventor who embodies the same qualities Delilah demonstrated.

Last year, The Delilah Van Ness Award for Independent Inventors and Innovators was presented by Delilah's family to Ravindu, inventor of The EGuppy! While her family didn't know it at the time of selecting the award winner, Delilah and Ravindu had been friends through CIC, having gotten to know each other through the CIC Independent Inventor program, summer camps, and CIC State Finals.

🎉 Congratulations Ravindu for earning this special award!

💙 We will continue to remember Delilah and her mother, Susan, for being inspiring beacons of empathy and innovation during your time with the CIC community. Thank you to Delilah and Susan's family for continuing to support the Connecticut Invention Convention and helping us to honor their memory.
