1. Police sponsored events in the community
b.

Increased accountability for police officers
a. Use of body cameras (with adequate policy to ensure compliance)—Urge the Hartford Public Police Department and Statewide departments to outfit police officers with body cameras. Cameras would help keep cops accountable for their actions and help build trust amongst residents who feel they are unfairly targeted by law enforcement
b. Special prosecutor

for all cases of deadly force involving a police officer

2. Representative police force and intentional officer training
a. Redesign the recruitment process to ensure police force is representative of those citizens it is intended to serve and protect
b. Sensitivity Training for all officers by June 30th, 2015—More third party involvement in police training; to include cultural competence and peaceful conflict management strategies

3. We maintain that local police forces do not need military arsenals; our neighborhoods are not battlefields

4. Investing in programs that provide alternatives to incarceration such as community-led restorative justice

5. Invest in programs to build better relationships between community and police officers
a. Sports programs in collaboration with local schools/community
c. Community policing and outreach (door knocking and foot patrols)

We are committed to hearing and working with the community. Please contact us at [email protected] with your ideas and suggestions on how we can implement these demands.
