My name is Carmela Carbone, and I am a senior at Wesleyan University. I'm currently looking for participants for my Education Studies thesis.

INFORMATION:

My research project aims to examine how college-aged Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (D/HH) individuals construct and perform their identities through literacy practices; specifically, using a framework that broadens literacy from just reading/writing skills to more multimodal approaches that occur both in and out of the classroom. The purpose of the research is to better understand how specifically D/HH individuals conceptualize literacy and how educational settings can better benefit their needs. If you participate in my project, you will be interviewed 1-on-1 for around 60-90 minutes in a space of your choosing. Compensation will be $25 in cash/Venmo. The information gathered will be used in an Education Studies thesis for the 2026-2027 academic year.

This study also aims to address how D/HH individuals position themselves within hearing and Deaf communities, understanding how D/HH individuals view biculturalism within their own lives (or if they even identify with that term!).

Eligibility criteria is as follows:
* 18-24 years old
* Enrolled in a U.S. college or university
* Identifies as Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing
* an communicate in spoken English or ASL
