This gathering welcomes information about Appalachian writing, which we define as the work of anyone who has lived in Appalachia or who currently lives in Appalachia. The only requirement is interest in the writing process, in whatever form the member might choose. The Appalachian region incorporates those eastern mountains, which flow from Alabama to Maine, offering landscapes of high peaks or foothills, cities, towns, or wilderness. People who write about Appalachia often choose to focus on one of the last regional environments, culturally, economically, and biologically, but we also recognize the longstanding influence of diversity as it has shaped our Appalachian cultures. The diversity within Appalachia offers a portrait of our nation. We invite writers of varying interests and approaches to participate on this page. Please share information about conferences, opportunities for publication, readings, and gatherings that promote Appalachia writing.
