We recently celebrated our 100th solar installation on a Habitat for Humanity Virginia home! ☀️

Volunteers, partners, and community members came together at a Hanover and King William Habitat for Humanity home to make it happen, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you to our special guests who joined us to celebrate this milestone: Adam Spanberger, Louise White, Jay Grant, Cassidy Rasnick, Keith Sherrill, and Aaron Sutch.

We’re just getting started, so we invite you to help us reach our next milestone, solar on 625 Habitat homes across Virginia: https://www.give.solar/donate

Thanks to our partnership with GiveSolar,100 Habitat homes across the Commonwealth are now powered by solar energy, including 20 built by CVHFH right here in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County! ☀️🏡

For our partner families, this means more than clean energy. It means lower monthly utility bills, greater financial stability, and another step toward long-term affordable homeownership. Every dollar saved on electricity is a dollar that can be invested back into a family's future.

This achievement would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors, volunteers, community partners, and the vision of GiveSolar. Together, we're not just building homes. We're building stronger, more sustainable futures for the families we serve.

A partnership between Habitat for Humanity Virginia and GiveSolar has reached 100 solar-powered homes across the commonwealth, coinciding with Central Valley Habitat for Humanity’s milestone of 20 solar-powered homes in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

What is the actual impact of solar for our homeowners?

Families with solar are seeing meaningful monthly savings on their electric bills, averaging $75-$100 per month, translating to $25,000 to $30,000 lifetime savings, depending on the state.

This kind of savings can drastically change the future of a family’s life, and we’re grateful to play a role in making this possible.

When our director, Jeff Heie, founded GiveSolar in 2018, he had a clear mission to make solar accessible to families who have historically been unable to afford the upfront cost. Since partnering with Central Valley Habitat for Humanity, a local Habitat chapter, in 2020, our impact has grown far beyond what we originally imagined through our statewide collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Virginia.

We are currently working toward our goal of installing 10,000 solar systems on Habitat homes across the country over the next five years, but we cannot accomplish this goal without your support.

Today is Global Energy Independence Day, a holiday that highlights the importance of reducing reliance on fossil fuels and expanding access to renewable energy.

At GiveSolar, we are working to make this technology more accessible through low-cost installation and affordable financing options, so more homeowners can benefit from clean energy. ☀️

Jasmine, a Habitat for Humanity Virginia homeowner of more than six years, was facing electricity costs that often varied unpredictably from one month to the next.

For many families like hers, energy bills can take up a large share of the household budget. Solar has been a direct path to lower, more predictable monthly costs for Jasmine, easing that burden and freeing up room in her family’s budget for the expenses that matter most.

Join us in bringing this kind of stability to more Habitat homes at give.solar/donate.

For Zach, one of the Habitat for Humanity Virginia homeowners with solar, the impact of solar has gone beyond lowering his electric bill. Not only is his monthly bill zero; he is actually owed a $260 credit.

As Stephen Ayers, CEO of the The American Institute of Architects, points out, scaling that outcome across 10,000 homes is what creates measurable financial stability for families and local communities.
