Many providers have begun receiving payment for previously denied claims. While this is encouraging news, the issue has not been fully resolved. We continue to work with payment leadership and APTA National to address these claims. This situation highlights the many hours your leadership team dedicates to advocating and working behind the scenes on behalf of our members. Please help us by contacting the payment team with updates regarding these claims.

Yesterday, APTA Michigan took a major step forward in advocating for our profession and our patients. Past President Mike Shoemaker and current President Brian Gilbert had the privilege of testifying before the Michigan House of Representatives Health Policy Committee in support of Senate Bill 144.

This critical legislation aims to remove unnecessary administrative barriers by eliminating the prescription requirement for physical therapy treatment under specific circumstances. By granting patients true direct access to physical therapy, SB 144 will:
**Improve Access to Care: Allow patients to begin necessary rehabilitation without waiting weeks for an initial referral.
**Reduce Healthcare Costs: Minimize redundant appointments and unnecessary imaging.
**Support Our Workforce: Help Michigan retain and attract highly trained, licensed PT professionals by allowing us to practice to the full extent of our education.

A huge thank you to Bill Sponsor Senator Sylvia Santana for her leadership on this issue, and to the committee members for their time and thoughtful engagement. We are incredibly proud to represent the physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students of Michigan as we work together to build a more accessible, efficient healthcare system.

Onward! 🏛️💪

The course “Physical Therapist-Led Falls Prevention: Evidence, Barriers, and Opportunities in Community-Based Care” focuses on identifying and addressing balance impairments and fall risk in community-dwelling adults, emphasizing the physical therapist’s role in early detection and prevention. It reviews evidence-based falls prevention strategies and highlights how PTs can assess balance deficits, use standardized measures, evaluate risk factors, and design individualized interventions to promote safe aging at the APTA Michigan conference in Kalamazoo.
