An update from Create Karma:

The Create Karma Board and organization has been in a period of transition, as so many of us have, since mid-2020; what began as a vision in one person’s mind, has grown into a beautiful, transformative experience for many. And for that, we are grateful.

For this past year we have been working to create for Sarah a period of sabbatical to give space for the next iteration of Create Karma to unfold. Sarah has generously shared her wisdom and light with the Create Karma community for almost 7 years and we are grateful now to be able to provide her space to focus on her own endeavors and wellness.

For the interim, any planned programming for this fall/winter is on hold, and Rita Whitney (former Board Chairperson) will serve as Interim Executive Director. We look forward to exploring potential new futures this spring with our growing wellness community.

We are here for any questions or concerns, and we send the biggest thank you during this period of sabbatical to Sarah for years of transformational leadership and grace.

Leah is a 300-hour graduate of the Create Karma Mentors Empowering Engagement Training (MEET) program, and currently one of our FEATs (Facilitators Empowered into Action Training) for this year’s program. “I feel that Create Karma really transformed my leadership and communication skills – both professionally and personally,” Leah says of her CK experience. “There was a different focus with CK than with my 200-hour training. I got pushed to the point of being uncomfortable with where I was and what I was doing, and why. It actually led me to quit my job.

I was a bar manager for 17 years, and I realized it was a toxic environment and that I needed to make a change. I had in my head that I had to do this ‘because of the money,’ so that made me make a big life change career wise. I left there to become a manager at another restaurant, a much toxic environment, and I found that my communication and leadership skills were better from my training. I would hold meetings the way we do our opening circle in the CK trainings. We would do clearings and even acknowledgments – at first the staff was like, WTF? But once they understood, it lessened the drama and really impacted the culture of the restaurant. I eventually left that position to run the yoga studio I co-own full-time. Create Karma pushed me to identify what wasn’t working in my life and to actually change it.”

Leah also says that Create Karma has made her “able to be a lot more objective and reasonable. I used to be really hot-headed and quick-tempered. I would get mad and just not hear anything anymore. Now I can say where did it come from? Okay, I’m feeling disrespected. I can now say to my husband, or my kids, ‘this is how I’m feeling’ and identify where it’s coming from. Not taking things so personally has changed everything.”

Lastly, Leah talks about the connections at Create Karma. “The friends that you make – that’s huge. It seems like you’ll be close with that group forever. There is nothing like that shared experience.”
