There are a lot of things we are involved in that we simply can’t talk about. We deal with a lot of sensitive cases and this was certainly one of those cases. I want to start off by saying, our focus for the last 25 years has been working with law enforcement and animal welfare agencies. We want to be that resource that they depend on so they can work animal cruelty cases or any other case that involves horses or other livestock.
Early in the morning on May 21st, we received a phone call like we have never received before from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics. They had completed a traffic stop in the middle of the night, where they found 160 Kilos of co***ne riding in the tack compartment of a horse trailer also hauling 6 horses. They desperately needed a place for those horses to go, where they would be safe and provided the care they deserved. They were very early in their investigation and needed to attempt to find an owner outside of the individuals arrested.
I’ve seen a lot of outlandish comments and speculations regarding this case. Trust me when I say, we all did our due diligence to protect these horses. 📌A few keynotes, the horses did not have drugs in their systems! They did not come from Mexico! They are all Thoroughbreds! Yes, we have properly identified them. Our amazing Veterinarian and her staff worked diligently to read tattoos and scan for microchips during their exams, which we did immediately after picking them up. In my opinion, these horses were merely a cover to haul their drugs. These horses fell into unfortunate circumstances they didn’t ask for.
These horses were in decent body condition, however, they all had scraps and minor wounds. They range in age from 2 to 18. The thinnest of the group is an 18 year old stud, Just Getin Started. The 2 year old filly in the group had never been named and she is lame. X-rays show she has previously foundered in one foot. We are hoping with some corrective shoeing, we can make her comfortable and she can still have a quality life ahead of her.
We would like to thank the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics for working so hard to make sure these horses were protected.
Sensitive cases like this, we don’t speak of, until things have been determined in court. And while we have many cases in our barn currently, it makes it hard to ask for donations to assist with their care. While we may be quiet, it’s not because we don’t ever need the support, it’s just hard to post updates when we are restricted.
