Dry thunderstorms with lightning started fires West of Happy, pray they are put out before they reach any livestock or homes! 🙏

Amazing!!!!

We need some good news right now. So here it is: For the first time in nearly 200 years, red-and-green macaws (Ara chloropterus), also known as green-winged macaws, are raising babies again in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest! ❤️💚🦜

These macaws once naturally lived throughout the region, but deforestation and wildlife trafficking wiped them out there long ago... The Atlantic Forest itself has been reduced to only a small fraction of its original size, making it one of the most threatened ecosystems on Earth! Conservationists have spent years restoring habitat and carefully rehabilitating rescued captive macaws, helping them relearn how to live as wild birds again.

And now… it worked. 😭

Two chicks successfully fledged in the wild. Their parents were formerly captive birds who found each other, formed a pair bond, built a nest, and raised babies together in a forest their species hadn’t truly returned to in generations. This marks the first *known* successful breeding of the species in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest in nearly two centuries!

Red-and-green macaws are often confused with scarlet macaws (Ara macao)—understandable, since both are big, bright red macaws. But green-wings are heavier, with deep green wing panels that give them that darker “rainforest shadow” look, while scarlets are brighter and more fiery in tone.

It’s easy to feel hopeless about conservation sometimes, but stories like this matter! They’re proof that when people choose to care, protect habitat, support rescue and rehabilitation work, and actually follow through, nature can recover in ways that feel almost impossible until they’re suddenly real. It blooms hope, and we certainly need it.

And also, Ara chloropterus aren’t just beautiful birds. They’re ecosystem workers. As seed dispersers, they help forests regenerate and maintain biodiversity. So this isn’t only about two adorable chicks (though… those babies are doing emotional damage in the best way to us right now). It’s about a damaged ecosystem slowly, carefully, starting to heal.

Hey humans… turns out we’re capable of good things too. Let’s not forget that and keep choosing to be that version of ourselves 💚

For Mother's Day I received the best gift; Rain.
It hasn't rained here since last year putting us in a significant drought that has left everything extremely dry and flammable. But yesterday we were absolutely blessed with the moisture we have been desperately praying for. We did not get a ton of rain, but we got enough to soak the ground good and the storm had nothing severe which was another huge relief. The sky cleared by 5pm and we spent the rest of the afternoon outside working around the farm, C**t even came by to be sure I got some of his famous kisses everyone loves.💋
I didn't offer a fundraiser this year for mother's day because I am honestly just extremely tired after working and surviving the last year with so much responsibility on our shoulders, so I decided a break was necessary. I know the hardest days are behind us and we will continue to pray for more rain and blessings to find us here at our sanctuary. I hope all the great Mother's out there had a wonderful weekend!! Yall have a blessed week!! ❤️
