I have been thinking back on this youth wrestling season over the last couple of days, and I just can’t get over how well it went and how much fun I had.
I have coached at the state individual tournament multiple times—even coaching a wrestler who broke multiple school records and placed 6th in the state. While those are cherished memories, this season was by far the most fun I have ever had coaching. We had a great group of kids who were willing to push themselves and do everything asked of them, not just for their own success, but for the team’s.
Special Thanks to Our Supporters
None of what we accomplished would have happened without our amazing group of parents who were always willing to step up. I’d like to extend a special thank you to Carla Jennings, Jennifer Pearson, and Coach Jess for completely handling weigh-ins so I could focus on the wrestling side of things. I would also like to thank Serena Killoran for taking on the task of sorting pins for the kids; this was a huge help that saved me valuable time for practice planning.
Our coaching staff was equally incredible. To Caleb Jennings, Chance Winnie, Lonnie Pfeifer, Ulises Lujano, Justin Garth, Kyle Sherwood, Curt Teller, Jessica Shook, Jeremy McMahan, Jarad Shannon, and Ashley Pomeroy: your help at practices and tournaments made everything run so much smoother.
Season Achievements & Reinvesting in the Program
We accomplished some great things this year. Not only did we place in the top 3 at 7 out of 10 tournaments, but thanks to our sponsors and the success of our home tournament, we were also able to heavily reinvest in our program:
• New Singlets: Sponsored funds allowed us to purchase all-new singlets to keep the team looking sharp.
• Tournament Tech: With the proceeds from our home tournament, we purchased 6 video cameras (with tripods and SD cards) and 8 sets of TVs, stands, and laptops. We no longer have to worry about rentals!
I am so happy with how this season went and am already making plans for next year. Let’s all get some rest, enjoy the spring and fall sports, and get ready to come back even stronger to build the Hanover wrestling community!
