Yesterday our Cub Scouts went to the annual Klondike & Gold Nugget Derby in Unadilla!

We got so lucky to have clear skies and sunshine all day as this is an outdoor event. We got up early, bundled up and drove off for our first group scouting activity with the Leatherstocking Council and fellow Scout Packs and Troops.

Scouts got to participate in bb shooting, sling shots, obstacle courses, education in the ecology of the planet and helping out our pollinators.

They also got to learn about chemical reactions, via an experiment that shows how lava flows from a volcano and what happens to the lava once it's outside of the volcano. They ended this lesson by making a snow volcano and then adding baking soda and vinegar for their own eruption experience!

There was a beading and lacing sit down craft which was nice after the long day in the snow and also a Lego Derby for fun. Cubs got to build their own Lego "pinewood" derby cars and then run them on the derby track.

Pictures are our Lion cubs and another pack of Lions building cotton ball shooters with our District Director Keith Knight.
