We’re excited to introduce three more speakers for Upper Delaware River Rendezvous. Miranda, John, and Amber will be addressing the topic of invasive species with a focus on Japanese knotweed.
Speaker Spotlight: Miranda Kearney
Assistant Professor in the Biology Department at SUNY Oneonta
Miranda will share research examining how invasive Japanese knotweed impacts riparian ecosystems, including its effects on plant diversity, seedbanks, and plant succession.
She’ll also explore potential restoration strategies, including the use of biochar and targeted native plantings to help restore areas impacted by knotweed.
Speaker Spotlight: John Thompson
Director of the Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership (CRISP)
John will be speaking on strategies to address knotweed at different scales
John brings approximately 25 years of experience working with scientists and land stewards throughout southeastern New York to advance science-based ecological management. As Director of CRISP, he works with partners to prioritize invasive species management strategies, coordinate regional initiatives, and lead training and outreach focused on invasive species identification, monitoring, management, and prevention.
Speaker Spotlight: Amber Grey
District Technician with the Sullivan County Soil & Water Conservation District.
Amber has conducted research focused on knotweed management and will share her findings, lessons learned, and insights from this work.
