Hawaiʻi Farmers Union Foundation (HFUF) is seeking an ʻĀina-Based Project Field Technician to join our growing team at our Kuia Agricultural Education Center (KAEC), in Lahaina on Maui.

Position details:
📍 On-site West Maui, Hawaiʻi
⏰ Full-time, 30 hours/week
📅 6-month term, with possibility of extension
💰 Starting at $26/hour

This hands-on position will support the restoration and stewardship of ʻāina through:
🌿 Native plant restoration & agroforestry
🐐 Targeted grazing and wildfire fuel-load mitigation
🔥 Fire safety and equipment maintenance
💧 Irrigation and erosion control
🤝 Community engagement and mālama ʻāina opportunities
📋 Field monitoring, data collection, and project support

We’re looking for someone with at least 2 years of field experience in environmental restoration, agriculture, forestry, or a related ʻāina-based role, with a strong interest in native ecosystems, restoration, agriculture, and wildfire resilience.

Hawaiʻi family farmers are making their voices heard in Washington, D.C. this week 🌱✈️ With more than 1,000 members now statewide, our collective voice is growing, and Hawaiʻi farmers are showing up at the table where decisions impacting agriculture are being made.

🗣️ If you haven’t yet, join us in this fight at hawaiifarmers.org , remember you don’t have to be a farmer to join the union and then advocate for locally grown food in your community.

This week, Hawaiʻi Farmers Union was represented on Capitol Hill as part of National Farmers Union’s Legislative Fly-In, bringing the experiences and priorities of our farmers and ranchers from Hawaiʻi to the table.

Mahalo to our HFU members Advocacy Director Hunter, Chapter Representative Drake, and HFU President & HFUF CEO Kaipo for making the journey and representing Hawaiʻi farmers in conversations with members of Congress and federal officials.

Farmers Union members from across the country came together to advocate for a Farm Bill that works for family farmers, including a stronger farm safety net, more competitive agricultural markets, mandatory country-of-origin labeling, and expanded domestic market opportunities.

Hawaiʻi may be thousands of miles from Washington, but our farmers deserve a seat at the table too.

Three disasters. Hawaiʻi’s farmers, ranchers, and fishers are still standing but they need help recovering.

Across the islands, producers have been hit by three disasters back-to-back this year, damaging crops, farm infrastructure, equipment, livestock operations, and livelihoods. After the Kona Lows, Hawaiʻi Farmers Union Foundation mobilized more than $700,000 in direct support for impacted producers. But with additional hurricanes bringing new damage, the need for assistance continues and donations have slowed.

Your donation to the HFUF Disaster Response Fund helps us continue providing direct relief to family farmers, ranchers, and fishers who have been impacted by these disasters. HFUF’s disaster response work is focused on connecting resources with producers based on documented need and verified impacts.

Now, we need your help to be there for them again.

Our Hawaii Farmers Union Mauna Kahalawai farmers had a beautiful and fulfilling day representing our Maui chapter at the annual Keokea Homestead Ho‘olaule‘a. 🌱

We had the opportunity to educate our neighbors, farmers, and our community and a wonderful day to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, talk story, and build community around agriculture.

Mahalo to everyone who stopped by, shared a conversation, and offered their support to HFU. Remember you don’t have to be a farmer to be a member. We’re grateful for every opportunity to gather with our community and share more about the work of our Farmers Union and how it uplifts the work of our family farmers.

And we’re not done! 🌿 Our Mauna Kahalawai chapter members will also be representing at Lā ʻUlu Breadfruit Day this Saturday, September 5 at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens in Kahului Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. Come celebrate ʻulu, connect with local organizations and farmers, and come say aloha! 🌳

The TOPP Organic Academy is coming to Molokai September 2–4, with three opportunities to learn, connect, and explore different aspects of sustainable and organic agriculture.

SEPTEMBER 2 — TURMERIC WORKSHOP

Join HFU Member Ted Radovich for a hands-on turmeric workshop exploring the culinary uses of ‘ōlena (turmeric). The workshop will include demonstrations on making fresh ‘ōlena juice, extracting ‘ōlena starch, and making mango-ginger pickles.
