Our Volunteer, Kate, is fighting for the lives of her two kitties when they simply touched lily pollen! Here is their story -

My mom sent me flowers for my birthday - lilies. I thought they were beautiful, but my cousin said they were toxic to cats, so I put them in my bedroom, which I usually keep closed off to the cats.

I was spending time with my girls yesterday and I left my bedroom door open, not thinking about the flowers. While I was eating lunch, Party and Addie went into my room and got up close with the flowers. They were sniffing them and got pollen on them. Party walked up to me right after and I saw a big smudge of pollen on her face. I immediately wiped it off and looked up lilies. I had no idea how poisonous they are to cats! They can cause kidney failure within 24 hours if not treated immediately.

Within 5 minutes I was on the phone with the emergency vet who guided me to reach out to the poison control line. They told me to take them to the vet ER immediately. I immediately called and texted Terry asking her to come help me get the kitties into their carriers. Terry immediately dropped everything and came over. She was able to get them in their carriers in 2 minutes - a miracle!! I couldn't have done it without her!!!

I got the kitties to the hospital within 1 hour of interaction of the flowers. They immediately took them back and checked both of them out. They sedated them (Party first since she had the most pollen on her), and then bathed them, took blood work, gave them medicine to help them throw up (didn't work) and hooked them up to an IV.

They hit the 24 hour mark at 4:30 today. Blood was drawn at 3 and both of their kidney levels are normal so far. They will be in the ER for 72 hours, getting blood drawn every 6 hours. Tonight at 9 is the next blood draw. I'm praying for my kitties. They are my babies, my everything. Please share this and ask for everyone's prayers and healing thoughts!!

Aug. 2, 2026 - Good news - The "Meezers" got adopted!

A couple weeks ago our two gorgeous Siamese sisters got a new & wonderful home!!! These 2 girls, TIPPY & FINNY, were trapped & rescued as teens at the Atlantic Seafood place in Hampstead.

These girls were 2 of the 70 cats I rescued from the Atlantic Seafood place before it was completely torn down!

Tippy was named after a Black Tip Shark. Finny was simply named after all the fish with fins!

These 2 stunning blue-eyed Siamese mix kitties were always a little timid and shy, but I knew, given the chance, they would do great in a home.....just the 2 of them together!

A wonderful lady saw the good in these cats and the beauty they exhibited! The adopter is a dog trainer, so that thrilled me knowing she would have the patience and understanding these "Meezers" needed!

The sisters were quite scared at first, but are slowly improving just as I knew they would.

A camera was placed in their room & im attaching a funny video at their new home!

I have complete confidence that the Meezers are in the "purrfect" home. I know they will get the love, understanding & patience needed while waiting for their confidence to build. It WILL happen because it always does! The more time the Meesers get petted, hand fed, talked to & handled, the quicker they will realize that they are safe! It may take a few months, but it will be so rewarding when it does!

Early July, 2026 Salvie is Adopted! See her photos with her Mom and relaxing in her new home.

Here is her story …

My niece & her roommate found SALVIE roaming around outside a Salvation Army store!

When they asked inside about the cat, they said she must have been dropped off & Animal Control was about to be called! They did NOT want a kitty anywhere near the store.

This kitty was very friendly and wanted to be rubbed & held!

My niece & her roommate brought her home & called FURR to rescue her.

I called her “SALVIE” and she was a wonderful, beautiful cat! We got her healthy, spayed & shots. She was so happy to be at FURR & she loved all of us volunteers…..BUT! She never took a liking to the other cats!

I don’t think she thought of herself as a cat! We knew she would be happy in a home with no other cats to steal away any attention.

A wonderful couple adopted SALVIE & they LOVE her! She is living her best life now & although we miss her, we are thrilled for her great opportunity to have a home!

July 2026 Wildflower is Adopted! Here is Wildflower’s story along her family –

I got a call from the family that needed help trapping a mama cat & 4 kittens. The family was so great to follow my every suggestion & they managed to trap & rescue all 5 kitties!

FURR assisted in the vet work for the kitties & FURR took in the 4 kittens: Fern, Wildflower, Forrest & Woody. The family adopted the mom kitty, BAILEY, and 3 of the 4 kittens got adopted.

WILDFLOWER, however, was extremely timid and had not been adopted in almost a year. Despite her amazing beauty & small petite size, no one so far was willing to give her a chance.

The original Rescue family saw that we still had WILDFLOWER & said they wanted her! She will be reunited with her mom, Bailey (Sweet Tortie)!

This family is very patient & loving and they will give WILDFLOWER a lifetime of love & care.

You can see that WILDFLOWER was quite scared in the picture with her new Mom, not knowing who is holding her, but the reports that I am getting is that she is doing better every day!

We have this message from her “FURR-ever” home:

“WILDFLOWER is slowing coming out of her shell, she is eating & doing pretty good. All it takes is patience & love! I am so grateful to this family for giving WILDFLOWER an opportunity to belong!”

Aug. 3, 2026 Good news - Friends of Felines has agreed to hold on to him and FURR has agreed to sponsor his care until his lice treatment is completed. Whew! It takes a village!

Aug. 2, 2026 - We're running out of time! We need a temp (6 week) foster TODAY! Please share with others!

July 31, 2026 URGENT! BY SUNDAY 8/2 I need a temporary (6 week) foster for a Trap-Neuter-Release cat we caught that has lice! This condition is absolutely *not* contagious to dogs or people but highly contagious to cats! We need someone with a spare room or a bathroom where I can set up a cage away from cats.

URGENT! This cat is in horrible shape and needs to be medicated (which Terry will do) once every 2 weeks for 6 weeks before he is released back into his colony. If he is released now, he will suffer and he will spread his lice to all the other cats in the colony!

PLEEEEASE HELP! FURR will provide food, litter, medication, cage, blankets and everything needed. Terry can also come to feed him and clean litter once a day if he is in the Hampstead area.

All you have to do is provide the space!
Please note that space in a garage *must* be air conditioned.

April 12, 2026 BLUE MARLIN ADOPTED…..FINALLY! HOORAY!

It’s been a long road baby! The foster parents that had BLUE FISH & BLUE MARLIN contacted me. Since our poor poor kitty, BLUE FISH, passed away, BLUE MARLIN has been so sad & depressed. MARLIN developed a UTI and had to go to the vet.

Both BLUE FISH & BLUE MARLIN had been so close and had been together for over two years.

The foster mom, shown above, had been wanting to rehome both cats for over a year now which has been very stressful for me.

The husband had gotten a large very energetic dog that wanted to chase the cats. Keeping the cats & the dog separated was causing problems. The wife wanted to keep the cats & the husband wanted to keep the new dog.

As time passed, and BLUE FISH passed away unexpectedly, BLUE MARLIN became very attached to and dependant on the wife. She gave him meds to help with his UTI and said that MARLIN was sleeping with her.

The dog had seemed to make a little progress in training & the wife and I both agreed that a rehoming for MARLIN right now would be horrible & stressful for him.

She talked with her husband & he finally agreed to let her keep MARLIN & adopt him!

April 16, 2026 URGENTLY NEED A FOSTER HOME FOR A SWEET, LOVING MAMA AND 4 BEAUTIFUL KITTENS! Last week a lady dropped off a stray cat at Sound Cat Veterinary Hospital. The lady said the kitty was having problems (but wasnt her kitty. She was having kittens!

Sound Cat called me & said they don't keep moms & babies! I went & got them & unfortunate, since im out of room at the rescue, the mom & FOUR kittens are at my house!

I promised my husband i would NOT bring any more cats & kittens home if i opened a rescue

The cat is SUPER friendly & the 4 kittens are adorable. I don't have any room at FURR, but I do want them at FURR as soon as possible because this mama THRIVES on attention & love!

I don't have time or space to give her what she needs!
