This last weekend Peoria Firefighters Local 50 hosted the 2025 AFFI Honor Guard convention. This event of attended by our Honor Guard members, Lt. DePauw and FF Morgan. The weekend consists of drills and training along with a time of camaraderie, and visiting with Honor Guard members from all over the state. This year we honored 7 local fallen firefighters including Steve Diehl from South Elgin FD who passed away from ALS, and Brad Belanger from Sycamore FD who passed away from cancer. This year Lt. DePauw also had the honor to be requested by the family to assist escorting the family of FF Steve Diehl down to hang a ribbon on the flag honoring Steve.

What is the “Honor Guard”?

The AFFI Honor Guard is a trained group of firefighters that perform precise drill and ceremony movements for parades, community events, and unfortunately funerals. Members of the Honor Guard take time away from their families to put a priority on honoring the members that have come before us. The Honor Guard is one way we as firefighters can support our brothers and sisters across the state, and even across the country. The current AFFI Honor Guard with the new inductees this year, now stands at over 700 members strong. The AFFI Honor Guard is the largest professional non-military Honor Guard in the US.

The Hampshire Fire Protection District was dispatched for a structure fire in the 300 Block of Washington Ave. at 4:41 p.m. today. Engine 1411 arrived on the scene at 4:43 p.m. and had smoke showing from a 2-story multifamily residential structure.
