Last week, the LION UP Collegiate Recovery Program had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2026 CRC Summit at University of Georgia

Our team learned so much about the future of collegiate recovery, including emerging drug trends, new research surrounding va**ng among college students, and innovative ways to continue strengthening recovery support on college campuses.

We were also honored to hear from Kristina Canfield about her impactful work with the Association of Recovery in Higher Education and the continued efforts to expand sustainable collegiate recovery programs across the country.

One of the highlights of the trip was a fun excursion to a trampoline park where our students had the chance to connect and build community with students in recovery from Allen University, Mississippi State University, and The University of Alabama. Experiences like these remind us how powerful peer connection and fellowship can be in recovery.

Our students also participated in engaging dance workshops and cinema therapy sessions centered around the movie The Breakfast Club, creating meaningful conversations about identity, connection, growth, and the shared experiences of young adults navigating life and recovery.

We are grateful for the knowledge, connections, and inspiration gained during this summit and look forward to bringing these ideas back to our students and campus community at LION UP. Recovery is growing, and we are proud to be part of the movement! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฆ

World Hunger Day is coming up May 27,2026. The fundraising goal for the Food Bank for Southeastern Louisiana Univeristy is $8,000. If we meet our goal this will really help us stock up or food pantry for Summer. National data shows that nearly 40% of college students face food insecurity, and these students are significantly less likely to graduate than their peers. While many think of campus as "closing" for the summer, the need does not take a vacation. Feel free to donate with the link below. Every little bit helps!

๐Ÿ’šโœจ Lion Up Collegiate Recovery Program Gratitude Night Recap โœจ๐Ÿ’›

What an incredible evening celebrating our LION UP Collegiate Recovery community! Gratitude Night was a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and connection that make this program so special.

We were honored to recognize outstanding individuals who continue to make a lasting impact in recovery:
๐Ÿ† Dr. Allison Smith (Board of Regents) received the LION UP Substance Award for her leadership and commitment to advancing collegiate recovery efforts Southeastern Louisiana University and Statewide.
๐Ÿ† Jenny Pierson was recognized for her constant support and presence in supporting our program and for helping elevate the โ€œWhat We Carryโ€ Art Show. Longbranch Recovery and Wellness
๐Ÿ† Ava Tomadin was honored for her commitment, creativity and inspiration in bringing the โ€œWhat We Carryโ€ Art Show to life. ๐ŸŽจ Southeastern Graduate Program in Counseling

The night was made even more meaningful by two spectacular student speakers who shared their stories with honesty, courage, and hopeโ€”leaving everyone in the room inspired.

We proudly awarded 13 student scholarships, investing in the future of students committed to both their recovery and their education.

Throughout the evening, we reflected on an incredible semester of accomplishments, including:
โœจ The Louisiana Recovery Capital Conference
โœจ Hosting impactful Narcan Trainings
โœจ Providing countless hours of support for students in recovery
โœจ Showcasing healing and expression through the โ€œWhat We Carryโ€ Art Show

This night was a true reflection of what it means to show up for one another. We are beyond grateful to be part of a community that continues to grow, support, and LION UPโ€”together. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŽจ GREEN & GOLD RECAP: WHAT WE CARRY ART SHOW ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ’›

On April 15, 2026, we had the honor of hosting the โ€œWhat We Carry: Visual Stories of Recovery, Grief, and Resilienceโ€ Art Show โ€” and what a powerful evening it was. ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธโœจ

Held at the SLU Contemporary Art Gallery, this meaningful exhibition brought together students, faculty, and community members to reflect on the lived experiences of recovery, healing, and hope through art.

๐Ÿ’š In partnership with SAFE Project and the Department of Visual Arts & Design, Lion Up Collegiate Recovery created a space where stories were not just told โ€” they were felt.

โœจ We were proud to welcome over 100 students, faculty, staff, and community members who came out to experience and support this incredible showcase of resilience and creativity.

๐Ÿ’› In honor of Collegiate Recovery Day, we celebrated the strength of students in recovery and the impact of Collegiate Recovery Programs:
โœจ Supporting sobriety while achieving academic success
โœจ Increasing retention and graduation rates
โœจ Growing nationwide โ€” now over 175 programs strong
๐Ÿ’š And proudly โ€” Southeastern was the first university in Louisiana to establish a Collegiate Recovery Program!

๐ŸŽจ From paintings to photography, sculpture to digital media, What We Carry reminded us that recovery is not just possible โ€” it is powerful, creative, and deeply human.

๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’› A special thank you to Longbranch Recovery & Wellness Center for providing light refreshments, and to Lion Up Recovery for serving fun, alcohol-free mocktails that brought joy and connection to the evening!

โœจ We look forward to carrying this event forward and making it even bigger next year!
