We are delighted to welcome Gina Shirley as our new Director of Students – Lower School!

Mrs. Shirley brings a deep love for Christ, children, and the work of forming students in wisdom and virtue. With a Master of Arts in Christian Education and a background in Early Childhood Education, she has faithfully served students and families for decades through teaching, educational leadership, children’s ministry, and classical education.

A longtime homeschool and classical educator, Mrs. Shirley is deeply committed to cultivating truth, goodness, and beauty in the lives of students. Her gracious spirit, love for young children, and dedication to partnering with parents make her a wonderful fit for our Lower School community.

We are grateful the Lord has brought her to Adolesco Prep and look forward to the wisdom, joy, and faithful leadership she will bring to our school family.

It is a joy to celebrate three remarkable women who exemplify excellence, character, and a love for the Lord. Their lives bear fruit as they seek to abide in His Word each day.

Mrs. Joanne Folks, our 2025-26 Teacher of the Year, is honored for her dedication to continual growth and her commitment to her students. She is deeply loved and truly deserving of this recognition.

Bethany Lupo, Grammar School Student of the Year, is an inspiring young woman who strives for excellence and seeks to be Christlike in all she does.

Sadie Husser, Logic and Rhetoric Student of the Year, is a thoughtful leader who pursues truth and continues to grow in wisdom and virtue.

We are so proud of each of them!

“By their fruit you will recognize them.” Matthew 7:16

Graduation last week was a beautiful reflection of our mission: to partner with parents in raising disciples through exceptional academics. Our graduates are a testament to growth and God’s faithfulness at work in their lives.

As we celebrate the diligence of our graduates, we also look ahead with anticipation. This time next year, we will celebrate our very first senior class! With a senior ring presentation, we honored our 11th graders, three young women who are already distinguished by their faithfulness, discernment, eloquence and commitment to excellence. They exemplify APA’s Portrait of a Graduate and what it means to pursue what is Good, True, and Beautiful.

As they consider important questions about identity and calling, they are faithfully looking to the Lord for wisdom, truth, and guidance.

We encouraged our Kinder and 8th grade graduates to look to them as a steady beacon marked by virtue and an earnestness for Jesus, following their example with purpose and hope as they are formed for the same end.

Congratulations to our 2026 graduates!

Thank you for capturing the night, and Reece Photo & Film for the video!

Our last day of school started with a student-led Rise&Shine so they could present their hard work in entertaining and meaningful ways. We heard from our Latin and Logic students in skit format, along with our upper Grammar history students who demonstrated their knowledge of the Medieval Era by song and award-worthy interpretive moves. The cherry on top was the finale presented by our littlest Preschool - Kinder students singing to us. There was a moment for everyone and we are proud of them! We finished our time together with Field Day and snowballs! Congrats, Orange Team!

We will see y’all back in August!

Thank you for capturing the day Melanie Lane Johnson!

Our last field trip of the year was at the aquarium. Always fun, educational and entertaining! 5th graders have been mastering all about insects for science this year and culminated their class experience by seeing their subject matter in real life.

APA students culminated our year-long journey in the Medeival Era with a living wax museum! Each student chose a historical figure, wrote a biographical passage and recited it to every passing guest. As a classical school, APA emphasizes the importance of history with fun projects like this because we believe it forms students through the story of human thought and culture over time.

As our students studied the Medieval Era this year, they saw how a world (ie Vikings and Mayans) once shaped by “raw power and superstition” was gradually transformed through the influence of the Greek and Roman empires and then from the seismic effects of Christianity to form Western Civilization.

This historical development, often called the Western Christian Paideia, reveals how ideas like truth, justice, and human dignity shaped the world, like our American founding (which APA students will learn about next year). This approach to history teaches students that ideas have consequences. History in a classical setting trains students to recognize patterns, think critically about cause and effect, and live with wisdom and purpose to shape the future for good.

“Human civilization was rooted in raw power and superstition. Life, as Thomas Hobbes wrote, was brutish and short. To our eyes, their customs were weird and pagan. People were told what to believe, and they did. Each tribe or nation had a god. And broader people-groups shared multiple gods. Most men were indentured to authoritarian leaders. The Greco-Roman-Christian civilization changed all that.”

After months of preparation, our Debate Team brought this case to life in our first ever Mock Trial. They learned to analyze evidence, build arguments, and engage opposing viewpoints with patience and
respect. They used their critical thinking skills and spoke with clarity and conviction.

Beyond academics, it shaped their character. They learned that truth matters and that words carry weight. Students practiced poise under pressure, humility in correction, and courage to stand firm in pursuit of justice.

The culmination of this mock trial reflected the beauty of a classical, discipleship-focused education. Through this process, our students were being formed into strong minds, wise and articulate voices, and hearts aligned with truth and integrity.

We are so proud. They were truly exceptional in every way. Thank you City Court - Hammond, La and Judge Sledge for your time and hospitality. Thank you Judge Ricca for your participation in Round 2. Thank you, Mrs. Ricau for guiding our students well.

1 Timothy 4:12 “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
