I realize this is a big ask...a shot in the dark really....but I'm looking for a few things to make life a lot easier at Sunshine's Yard Supply. A WISH LIST if you will.....
I've never been one to ask for anything. But in the past 2 years, I've learned some hard lessons....first, is to set aside your pride & ego and ask for help.
I've learned that we need others and the support of community if we are to thrive. Nobody can achieve great things without support and love. π©΅ππ©΅
These are a few things I've been dreaming of since I started over here in 2021, πΆβπ«οΈ but just never seem to have the extra funds to be able to get, we are literally still just somehow squeaking by every year thanks to the Universe, God, Luck and some good people.... whatever you want to call it, however you see it. β€οΈ ππ«Άπ€ π
π€π«΅Maybe you might have something sitting in your garage, shed or dark dusty corner somewhere?
1. A used PELLET STOVE-
I have a wood burner in there now, but to add a pellet stove would alleviate the need to tend to the fire in the middle of the night to keep the plants up to a temp they can tolerate. Right now, I can't keep any plants inside the store in the winter. So I have to traipse customers back outside thru the mud over the greenhouse to even see them. This stove ain't gotta be pretty, just functional.
Between the heat and electric over here, we are literally operating as if it were turn of the century. Someone call Doc Baker. π And if you're a regular who come for a Christmas tree...then you know that you'll leave smelling like a bonfire after you come shopping here. π€¦ββοΈ It's quite a holly jolly experience. π₯βοΈπ₯βοΈπ₯ π
And so listen... I used to be up for all the extra tasks, like hauling up & chopping wood,πͺ and other things like running plants back forth to work and my house for the evening so they dont freeze, and then take them back to work the next day.... I'm not afraid of hard work....but these past 2 years of health issues have taken a toll and limited my physical abilities and daily stamina -( boy. π«€ that was hard to say and admit. But it's true. I'm tired, but not ready to give up. ) EFF CANCER.
2. Some (used) insulation or foam boards to insulate part of the store ceiling in the area that I try to heat. Right now, it warms up a bit in there, but I lose most of it since there zero insulation in a 120 yr old barn roof and a concrete floor that stays cold, once it's cold. I put new exterior roof on in 2022, but it's not enough to hold in heat for any extended amount of time.
I used to laugh, cuz the way I actually kept warm was by chopping the wood to burn... to keep warm. π
but my current energy level will not allow for any of that.
3. Old plywood/ press board/ wainscotting to cover up the insulation in the inside ceiling area. Prob measures 12 x 20 (ish) I can always use burlap and lattice for that too I suppose. Doesn't have to be pretty...I can make due. I'm pretty creative.
4. Old riding mower/ golf cart. Doesn't need to mow...just needs to run....to pull a small wagon around here so I don't have to pull it like the mule I've been for 35 yrs.
OR... someone to get the current riding mower here running....I've had 2 guysπ "look" π at it.. I invested in many parts for it, and it still doesnt run.
I don't need this until spring I suppose.
I can pick up any of this stuff if there's help to load, I'm also very flexible on timing.
5. If you are a tree co. or a company who might have decent wood chips, extra millings or small grade crushed stone leftovers from a job... I would gladly take some of that off your hands. I can meet you and show you where to dump. We are NOT taking junk, landscape waste, logs, etc.... THERE IS NO DUMPING WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT.
Just to be clear, and at the risk of sounding like a grumpy old swamp hag... I have been busting my a** for the past 4 years cleaning up this property. I am finally gaining a foothold here since the landlord finally got rid of the last guy who inundated the property with tree waste in every crevice that I had previously cleared.. Bye Felicia.
I've had scrappers in here to remove dangerous old rusty metal, I've paid for countless dumpsters full of garbage taken out of here, paid for so many tire repairs on my tractor from pallet nails, so please don't keyboard bash me here...
After trying so dang hard, I don't think I could bear to read any negative comments about how the property looks. I know what is being said throughout the grapevine in the community...and if you're one who has not seen a change for the better since I've been here....swing by, we can sit down, have a cup of coffee and look at some pictures from the day I started. April 1, 2021. Hell, swing by in a couple of weeks and I'll teach you how to make a wreath while we chat about it.
There has been a devastating run of bad luck surrounding this property for quite some time. Since Snowmaggedon in 2014. Sometimes people are too proud to ask for help. It's a big place, so it's a monumental undertaking and overwhelming for one person, even 2.
So if anyone knows of any grant funding that a century old barn might qualify for... or anything Agricultural or recycling related that Sunshines might qualify for.. please contact me.
6. Lastly, if you have a woodsplitter that you'd be willing to share the use of, and you are in need of wood for the winter... please contact me. We may be able to work some type of trade. You can find my # if you Google Sunshines. Or DM me.
Thanks for reading this far! Good day to all!!
βοΈPeace & Love
Now go out and love on somebody today! π
