The 200 Club of Bergen County is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance, scholarships and valor recognition to law enforcement, fire and emergency service personnel and their families throughout Bergen County, NJ. About the 200 Club of Bergen County

Over 40 years ago, a Detroit businessman elicited generous responses when he asked 100 business friends to contribute $200 each

to the family of a young police officer who was fatally wounded in the line of duty. State Police Superintendent Colonel Clinton Pagano made several attempts to start a 200 Club in Bergen County, all of which failed – until he introduced the idea to J. Fletcher Creamer, an influential businessman renowned for his involvement in civic affairs took the lead and personally signed up the first 80 members in 1985. The 200 Club of Bergen now stands as one of the largest 200 Clubs with over 1200 members and growing. While the 200 Club of Bergen County’s members are its lifeblood, the organization’s past and current presidents, executive board members and trustees volunteer a great deal of time and effort to ensure that the club remains true to its mission. They continually work to improve upon the support that the club provides to our police, fire and emergency service personnel throughout the county of Bergen. From founder J. Fletcher Creamer all the way through to the current president, Jack Terhune and the present Board of Trustees, they continue to make significant contributions to the advancement of the 200 Club of Bergen County.

Yesterday, the City of Hackensack Fire Department welcomed the 200 Club of Bergen County Executive Board Members, President David Hollenbeck, and Vice President Harry Gates, to officially thank them for the appropriations grant received in late 2025.

This grant funded upgrades to the training classroom at Fire Headquarters, enabling the installation of improved technology and audiovisual equipment to enhance the learning experience for attendees and presenters.

This classroom serves as a central hub for the City of Hackensack Fire Department for professional development, drills, incident command exercises, meetings, briefings, and community outreach. Now called “Hackensack Fire University,” these enhancements support the department’s mission by increasing educational opportunities and strengthening service to the community.

Beyond this project, for over 40 years, the 200 Club’s grants and other financial support have benefited Bergen County's First Responders and their families by supporting firefighters, law enforcement, and EMS personnel in several meaningful ways.

National EMS Week: https://EMSweek.org

**National EMS Week**: Celebrated annually since 1974, this week honors EMS professionals and their vital work in our communities. Organized by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), it highlights their contributions to health and safety.

This year's theme: **Improving Outcomes, Together**. EMS professionals remember meaningful moments, such as stabilizing a child's breathing or comforting a patient until family arrives. These experiences go beyond headlines, influencing lives and communities.

Modern EMS clinicians use advanced skills and tools such as prehospital ultrasound and early stroke recognition, making a significant impact before patients reach the hospital. The initiative emphasizes the need for fair pay, safe staffing, mental health support, and opportunities for professional growth.

Let’s recognize and support those behind the patch and reaffirm our commitment to Improving Outcomes, Together.

International Firefighters’ Day: May 4th: https://www.firefightersday.org/

Firefighters dedicate their lives to protecting life and property. Sometimes that dedication takes the form of countless volunteer hours over many years; in other cases, it is selfless years spent working in the industry. In all cases, it risks the ultimate sacrifice of a firefighter’s life.

International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD) is a time when the world’s community can recognize and honor the sacrifices firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are as safe as possible. It is also a day to thank current and past firefighters for their contributions.

Earth Day is a great reminder for us all to appreciate and take care of our planet and its important resources. It pushes everyone—people, communities, and governments—to team up to tackle real environmental problems like pollution, deforestation, climate change, and biodiversity loss. When we all work together, we can make a positive impact and create a sustainable future for everyone!
