~~Three of Mississippi’s top universities visit all three Smith County Schools in 1st quarter

Admissions recruiters from the University of Mississippi, the University of Southern Mississippi, and Mississippi State University visited Mize High School, Raleigh High School, and Taylorsville High School during the first quarter of the school year to provide seniors with guidance on navigating the steps of university admissions, institutional scholarships, student financial aid campus life, and diverse academic programs at each university.
Consisting of small groups, large assemblies and informal one-on-one conversations, the recruiters’ visits were coordinated through a collaborative effort of Smith County School District Career Coach Kara Kimbrough, Mize High School Counselor Carrye Ishee, Raleigh High School Counselor Caylan Hadley and Taylorsville High School Counselor Beverly Douglas. The four worked together to streamline recruiters’ logistics to ensure that all area seniors had equitable access to these essential resources early in the school year as important decisions about students’ futures are being made.
Bringing the state’s top universities directly to the students helps bridge the gap between secondary education and future academic success, providing Smith County’s seniors with information and additional resources necessary to begin planning their paths toward higher education several months prior to graduation. Additionally, recruiters from Jones College and other colleges and universities meet with seniors throughout the school year.

🎓 Exploring College Opportunities Through Virtual Reality! 🎓

Perry Central students in grades 10–12 had the exciting opportunity to explore Mississippi colleges and universities through virtual reality headsets provided by Get2College!

This interactive experience allowed students to virtually explore campuses, discover academic programs, and learn more about the many educational opportunities available right here in Mississippi.

🌟 What a fun and innovative way to help students explore their options, discover new possibilities, and take another step toward planning their futures!

💡 Innovation in Action at Seminary High School!

Students at Seminary High School put their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to the test during the FlexFactor Product Creation Challenge!

Students developed innovative product ideas and had the opportunity to present their creations for judging. This hands-on experience encouraged critical thinking, entrepreneurship, and real-world skills that will help prepare them for future careers.

🟢⚪️D’IBERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL WELCOMES DELTA STATE RECRUITERS TO CAMPUS

Students at D’Iberville High School recently welcomed Amon'Ta Coffee, area recruiter from Delta State University, for an engaging and informative presentation about college, career planning, and the importance of preparing for the future.

During the visit, students learned about the importance of making education a priority and having a solid backup plan in the event of unexpected circumstances, such as an injury that could prevent someone from continuing in their chosen career. The recruiter also shared his personal journey to college, giving students valuable insight into his experiences and the role education has played in his career.

The presentation was highly interactive, allowing students to participate in a question-and-answer session and engage in meaningful discussions. Students also enjoyed a virtual tour of Delta State University’s campus, giving them a glimpse of the college experience and the opportunities available to them.

In addition, students were encouraged to take the ACT, if they have not already done so, as they continue preparing for their postsecondary plans. The visit concluded with students receiving Delta State University promotional items and learning more about the possibilities that await them after high school.

D’Iberville High School appreciates Delta State University for taking the time to connect with our students, share valuable information, and encourage them to plan confidently for their futures.
