💜💛 Full-circle moments are the best!

Lamar County School District Career Coaches Terry Smith – Sumrall High School, Cindy Steven Pheal – Lumberton High School, Meg Stewart – Purvis High School, and Kelly Garner – Oak Grove High School recently attended the William Carey University Counselor Summit.

The coaches enjoyed learning more about the degree programs, career pathways, and opportunities available to help LCSD students plan for successful futures.

The icing on the cake was running into two former Lamar County School District students who are now building successful lives and careers of their own! ❤️ Seeing former students thriving in their next chapters is always a special reminder of why educators do what they do.

Other SMPDD Career Coaches attending the Counselor Summit were: Laura Ann Toche, Tiffany Hall, Olivia Shelby, Makisha Keyes, Jill Ford, Annette Harvison, Teresa Booth, Kim Ball, and Abi Ayanfalu.

COLLEGE APPLICATION DAY AT D’IBERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

D'Iberville High School recently hosted a successful College Application Day in the library, giving our seniors and graduating juniors the opportunity to receive hands-on assistance as they take the next steps toward their postsecondary goals. Students had the opportunity to connect with representatives from several colleges who were on campus to answer questions, provide valuable information, and guide students through the college application process. (USM, MSU, William Carey, Ole Miss, Jackson State, University of South Alabama, Springhill College, Mobile AL, and MGCCC, along with our local Army recruiters). The counselors, career coach, and staff also assisted with completing their applications online and making sure they had the support they needed every step of the way. A special thank-you to MGCCC for being on campus and connecting with our students. Although MGCCC's application for the upcoming school year does not open until September 1st, their representative was still available to answer questions and help students prepare for the application process. We were also excited to have several of our teachers join in and step into the college-going spirit by supporting and encouraging our students throughout the event.

A HUGE thank-you to all of our college representatives, teachers, staff, and everyone who helped make College Application Day success.

Career Coaches Suzanne Gilmore, Michelle Herrin, Richelle Dedeaux, and David Wilson attended the USM Counselor Luncheon at The Great Southern Club alongside USM Recruiter Khara Walters.

Our coaches enjoyed learning more about The University of Southern Mississippi, its programs, resources, and opportunities available to students as they plan for life after high school. SMTTT!

Sharing the Career Coach Mission!

Career Coach Ashley Rue recently had the opportunity to speak at her schools’ professional development meeting, where she shared an overview of the Career Coach Program and the many services available to students.

Ashley highlighted the program’s menu of services and the ways career coaches support students as they explore college, careers, technical training, military service, and workforce opportunities.

Opportunities like this help strengthen collaboration with school faculty and staff and ensure they understand how the Career Coach Program can be a valuable resource in helping students plan for their futures.

Great job, Ashley, for representing the program and spreading the word about all that career coaches have to offer! 💙

From Career Coach Jill Ford at Perry Central HS:

“Career coaching is about preparing students for life beyond high school—and that includes making safe, responsible decisions along the way!”

Students at Perry Central High School recently welcomed Jackson State University for an engaging Drunk Driving Prevention presentation. Juniors and seniors learned about the serious effects of drugs and alcohol and the dangers of impaired driving. Students also had the opportunity to experience “drunk” and “tired” goggles, giving them a hands-on look at how impairment can affect judgment, coordination, and reaction time.

Thank you to Jackson State University for providing our students with an informative and memorable learning experience. Opportunities like this help equip students with the knowledge they need to make smart choices for their futures!
