Old Soldiers Reunion - Griswold, IA Old Soldiers Reunion started in 1882 as a Reunion of returning war Veterans. Started in 1882 for the Reunion of the GAR and was held in the grove on Jon R.

Schofield’s farm 5 miles northwest of Griswold. Schofield was a war prisoner during the Civil War. He invited his farm for a 2 – day reunion. The GAR was organized in 1883 with 25 charter member. In 1920 the Old Soldiers Reunion was a joint venture with the GAR and The American Legion that had just been organized. In September of 1920 The GAR asked the American Legion to take over the Reunion.
