Purim, celebrated earlier this week at Chabad, was a joyous and meaningful experience for everyone who participated.

A great crowd joined us on both Purim eve and Purim day to hear the Megillah, share a L'chaim and celebrate with fellow community members.

Several participants shared that this was their first Purim celebration, which made the occasion even more significant.

To ensure no Jew was left behind we held a special Megilah reading at 5:30 AM (!) enabling a lady working in The Dalles to also have the opportunity to perform the Purim mitzvahs before her work shift.

The message of Purim is ever pertinent: Make an effort to pay attention to the Hand of Hashem which guides our lives every day. Keeping this in mind empowers us to live life to its fullest with joy, clarity and purpose.

A sincere thank you to our donors who enable joyous Judaism to be experienced in Gresham.

We look forward to seeing you soon at the upcoming Pesach (Passover) celebrations.

May we continue the joy of Purim throughout the entire year,
The Shtetl family - Rabbi Dyce, Cheina and the kiddos.

Special community gathering at Chabad

Earlier this week, we celebrated Tu B'Shevat, the New Year for the Trees, with a joyous gathering at Chabad. Everyone enjoyed the delicious assortment of fruits and wines while learning about the Torah's teachings regarding nature.

The evening also marked the beginning of a new study cycle of the works of the Rambam (Maimonides), who expounds on all the mitzvahs of the Torah. It was exciting to see a number of participants inspired to incorporate Torah into their daily lives by committing to study a chapter of Rambam each day.

Troutdale Lights First Ever Menorah in wake of Australia Tragedy
Gresham Outlook - Christopher Krizer

Troutdale’s first-ever public menorah lighting brought brightness and joy to the community in the wake of a tragedy half a globe away.

For Rabbi Avrohom Dyce, the “antisemitic terror attack” in Sydney, Australia, which killed at least 15 people in a shooting, hits close to home. He grew up in Bondi Beach (where the attack occurred). Its where his father still lives, and the Hanukkah celebration that was targeted is one that Dyce attended as a youngster.

“It was very shocking and scary to see,” Rabbi Dyce said. “This crowd (in Troutdale) is answering that darkness with light and unity.”

Stand with Chanukah Tonight in Troutdale

The news from my hometown Sydney is heartbreaking.

A horrific terror attack took place at a Chanukah celebration. Innocent people were murdered simply for gathering to bring light into the world.

Tonight, we will gather as a community. Please join us at 4:00 pm at Mayors Square for the first ever Troutdale Chanukah Celebration. (Police will be present to ensure security).

Not because we are ignoring the pain, but because we refuse to let fear win.

We will stand together - stronger, louder, prouder - and we will bring more light into this world.

Beautiful Community BBQ at Chabad

This past Sunday a great crowd gathered at Gresham Chabad for the annual community BBQ. Everyone enjoyed the delicious Kosher food and meeting new and old friends.

The high temperatures weren't going to stop this crowd of over 25 people from coming out to gather and some participants drove even as far as an hour away to participate.

Everyone enjoyed hanging out with other Jewish people and hearing the blow of the Shofar and words of inspiration from the Torah.

A big thank you to our donors and volunteers for helping to make this possible.

We look forward to seeing you at our next event.
