Helping The Haitian People Our name, “Sundouloi Ministries, Incorporated" (SMI Haiti), comes from the Greek “sundoulos” which means “fellow servant”.

It emphasizes our desire to join together with others of like-mind to fulfill the Lord’s commission to care for His children.

School is back in session in both Guitton and Kamitan, and we're celebrating two important milestones. First, Guitton now offers the final grade of high school, meaning students can complete their entire education without traveling to another village. Previously, the cost of transportation kept many students from finishing high school — this change removes that barrier for good. Second, we're kicking off the school year with a meal every school day for about 520 students at the two schools. Please join us in praying that this will be the best school year yet, without interruption due to unrest. Pray for the staff and teachers as they pour into these children and for the children to grow mentally and spiritually this year.

We’re proud to celebrate that Austin Holmes has been nominated for the role of U.S. ambassador to Haiti. Austin has been part of the Mission of Hope family for years, first serving on our staff and leadership team and now as our board chairman. He and his family lived in Haiti for several years, and Haiti has remained an important part of his life and work.

We’re grateful for the ways he has continued to care for Haiti and its people, and we’re excited to see how God continues to use him. Congratulations, Austin!

Respire Haiti is an organization working in another area of Haiti. This post expresses so well why we continue doing what we do - educating children and supporting local churches. School starts next week and the most students ever are enrolled.

This week at SMI: The newest baby in the Prenatal Program was born in Kamitan. The children in Guitton enjoyed a meal prepared with the packaged food provided by Living Water Lutheran Church (Dayton, OH) and several other organizations around Dayton, OH. They will be packing meals again in November. If you would like to help pack or help finance the project please message us.

A lot has been happening in Haiti. Last week was kindergarten graduation in Guitton. We are excited that these children will be advancing to 1st grade in the fall. Students are being enrolled and measured for uniforms this week. Their summer break will be short since school is scheduled to start Sept. 7.

Yesterday was Flag Day in Haiti. It is one of the biggest celebrations of the year. The community began celebrating last Friday. In the midst of all of the turmoil, Haitians are proud of their heritage and of their flag. The first Haitian flag was sewn not too far from the Kamitan mission house, so the people in Arcahaie take special ownership of and pride in their flag.

Twin sisters, born in Guitton around 2013, are now thriving 7th graders at the SMI school. Watching these twins grow from infancy into the young girls they are today has been a joy and a privilege.
