Good Saturday Morning Greenwood! Today is the day. Let's rebuild our great town with leaders that have worked hard all year to uncover and bring to light issues that were hurting Greenwood.

These three candidates want to fix the issues, repair the damage done, and help Greenwood to grow in a positive and responsible way.

That starts today with a vote from the residents to keep them in their Council seats and continue the great work they've done this year.

For more detailed information on each candidate, please reference this week's issue of the Seaford Star. Candidate interviews are published beginning on the front page. You can also reference the recorded "Meet the Candidates" session held earlier this week at the VFW.

Do the right thing Greenwood, vote DONOVAN, NELSON AND MORAN, the truthful, dedicated and experienced candidates that honestly care about our town!!

Good Morning Greenwood. Hope you had a chance to watch the Town Council meeting last evening to hear the truth verified about your tax rates. For more facts and truths, tune in this morning at 8:30am. A public hearing will be live streamed where you will get more answers to your questions. In the meantime, here's some more facts you may not be aware of concerning one if the candidates running for a seat in Council, Pam Tijerino.

Please explain your statement Candidate Willey. What has cost the town so much money? Are you referring to the accountants that were hired to repair the Town's accounts that are in total disarray, the costs incurred for the audits that were never completed over the last several years, or the investigators that uncovered wrong doings within the management of town finances?? So, who cost the town so much money?? You're ok with no real and true financial data due to reported negligence discovered by the investigators and unkept accounts? Explain why you approve please.

He's also using scare tactics, informing residents that everyone's taxes will increase 40%. This is NOT true. Reference the previous post to calculate your new tax rate. Some residents only saw a 12% increase, some saw more, some even saw a decrease!! Your new rate is calculated using the County assessed value of your propery.

VOTERS: Beware, this Candidate denies these discoveries as reported from the investigators vs supporting solutions to rectify the turmoil that it has caused our town. Blaming the current Council for launching an investigation instead of addressing the real issues at hand is a problem.

VOTE DONOVAN, NELSON AND MORAN.
Leadership, Honesty, Transparency, Respect, Experience, Loyalty, and Dedication to Greenwood and the residents!

Happy Tuesday Greenwood! Tutorial Tuesday has helpful information for you to better understand the tax increase that was recently approved by Council. Rumors are circulating through Town by Candidates Willey and Tijerino that our taxes have been increased 90%. This is not true. The tax increases are based on YOUR property's County tax assessments. Some properties only increased a few dollars. Other properties may have seen a larger increase due to the fact that the property increased in value since the original value declared in 1974 (the last known assessment). These untrue facts are upsetting the residents, especially elders that are living on limited income sources. Please take a moment to call Town Hall (302-349-4534) and ask what your new tax rate is. You may be surprised to find that the increase really isn't that much at all.

For example, one homeowners old tax rate was $651.00 per year. The new tax rate (based on the County Assessment) is $731.03 per year. That is a 13% increase, NOT A 40% increase. This is an $80.03 increase PER YEAR. That equals $6.70 per month (a Starbuck's coffee). Another property in town's old rate was $133.50 per year and is now $59.40 per year. It actually decreased!! It's not a 40% increase across the board as it's being relayed to residents by uneducated people. The rates will be different for each property owner.

Also remember that in order to have great services in our town, we must pay taxes. We finally have a fully staffed police force to protect our community (that costs money). We are a small town with not much revenue. Things aren't free!

The formula used to calculate YOUR new tax rate is as follows:
Find out what your new assessed value of your property is by searching your property at sussexcountyde.gov

Your property value, divided by two (that's half).
Next, divide that number by 100.
Next, multiply by 0.45
This is your yearly tax rate.

Example: Assessed County Value $324,900.00
Divided by two (Half of the value) = $162,450.00
Divided by 100 = $1,624.50
Multiplied by 0.45 = $731.03
Old Rate $651.00 New Rate $731.03 12% Increase

Flyer is attached referencing the false advertising of the misleading tax increase information.
