Ladies and Gents….
WE HAVE WHISKEY 🎉 (Now named Dolly)
This girl took some blood, sweat, and tears (and like 6 months off my life expectancy 🤪) but it all worked out. She spent last night with her foster home that we had previously lined up for her and as expected, she’s loved immensely ❤️

Her original owner who posted her on a free fb site, certainly held back some truth….as expected. The dog that we got doesn’t even look like the one she posted. Same breed, but really a lot of differences. Her mammary mass is huge and will need addressed asap. Nobody knows if or when she’s ever seen a vet for any reason. This is likely the reason as to why the owner stopped messaging a reputable rescue and went with a citizen instead, so she could get away with these false statements easier.

After the whole battle yesterday with those who did pick her up, I want to give some credit where it is due. They most certainly did the right thing by surrendering to us so that her mass and medical needs can be handled. We are thankful she is in our care and I know she was worth the roller coaster that occurred to get her here ❤️

Welcome to Taffy’s Touch, Dolly

You know the obese chihuahua I’ve been yapping about? Her name is Blondie, and she’s safe with us now ❤️
She doesn’t look near as large in this picture so she does have some good angles 🤪
Blondie is about 19 pounds and should be 8.
She’s now had her first dose of insulin and diet food. She’ll be tucked in all cozy tonight with a couple of Taffy’s alumni and now gets to start working on her new life.
There were SO many people involved with helping this girl get to safety. The Greenwood vet who contacted another rescue. That rescue who couldn’t help but asked if we could, and then donated food. The Bloomington vet where Blondie had been seen, who then donated insulin to us. The AMAZING foster who made the long trip in the middle of her Friday to pick the insulin up and then pick Blondie up, just to head back on the road. Anyone who donated towards her care so we could say yes, and anyone who shared her post to get more help. The wonderful vet who follows this page who took time to review records and give us advice and education so that we could feel comfortable helping her.
Oh my goodness, the world is full of amazing people ❤️ I won’t focus any more energy on those who insist on tearing us down, when clearly there are more who build us up.
Welcome to Taffy’s Touch, sweet girl 😊

Oh good, an update on Whiskey for everyone!

A few things….
🐾If you wish to help a dog we share, contact me, apply, let me know, literally do anything to relay that wish.
🐾 If you pick up a dog on your own free will without ever applying or contacting me, then that dog is not under our rescue in any way.
🐾 never threaten to share publicly. I’ll do it without hesitation first.
🐾 in April, we brought in $12,842. We spent $15,558 on our dogs and vet care. Do the math. It’s never a money making party over here.
🐾 Attempting to raise funds before fully committing is normal. Otherwise, we agree to provide care that we can’t actually follow through with. Anyone interested in a refund for money specifically sent for Whiskey if we do not get her, will be able to get money back with no issue. Blondie, also shared in that post, will consume much more than what was raised for all 3 dogs combined on her very own.
🐾 A surrender form will be sent to this person and if they wish to allow us to take Whiskey and help her, we will without question.
🐾 Many of us, myself included, are walking around already mentally and emotionally drained. Things like this pull more energy downward and I really wish people could think before accusing or firing off messages.
🐾 I am thankful Whisky is safe. I do not believe intentions were wrong of those who did pick her up. The original owner seems to be what would be expected from a person giving an old dog away for free on an app. WE are not the problem in this scenario.
🐾 I’ve said it before, but I’m reinforcing the boundary that we will NOT be taking any owner surrenders for any reason other than an elderly individual moving to a facility or with failing health. Anyone else for any other circumstances will not be considered. There are policies in place for a reason.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Happy FRIDAY🎉

A few updates on the 3 dogs I shared the other day as we’ve actively been working on them all week…..
🐾 Whiskey (small chihuahua) was shared on a FB “free site” at 10 years old and just 7 pounds. I coordinated with owner to get her to a safe and loving home of ours, who has been anxiously awaiting her arrival.
Except now owner has ghosted me, won’t open messages, and removed her post. This is reason 57893 why I don’t take owner surrenders. Energy was put into that and now a foster is let down. All I know is that I sincerely hope Whiskey is ok.
🐾 Beagle boy- joining next Wednesday to escape the shelter and land in a wonderful foster home 🥳
🐾 very obese chihuahua- I’ve spoken with owner that requested euthanasia from the vet, which is how we got involved. I’ve contacted her original vet in Bloomington and obtained records. This girl was just diagnosed with diabetes this week. When you see her pic, it’s easy to feel enraged. I did too. But owner is elderly and just not able to provide her what she needs and had no idea there were other options. Another wonderful rescue donated some insulin to last a couple days, as well as a lot of her prescription food, and we have an amazing vet who follows our page that will also help get some for her until she can get necessary bloodwork.
I am actively attempting to coordinate arrival of meds, transport for her from Bloomington, a temp foster, a long term foster, and a vet appointment asap.
Hold tight as I’ll share once she’s with us 😊

As I’ve said, rescue takes a village. Thanks to everyone who chooses to be a part of ours ❤️

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight 🌟

We’d like to give a huge welcome and thank you to our newest volunteer, Nikki (not to be confused with myself 🤪)!

If you’ve enjoyed our recently redesigned newsletter, you have Nikki to thank for much of the work behind it. She has been instrumental in creating the new format and helping bring fresh ideas and organization to our communications. The feedback has been wonderful, and we couldn’t be happier with the results!

In addition to her newsletter talents, Nikki also assists with promoting our events and fundraisers, helping us spread the word about our mission and the senior dogs we serve. Her technical skills, creativity, and willingness to jump in wherever needed have already made a big impact.

READY FOR ADOPTION 🐶

Toto had his vet visit yesterday and got a clean bill of health! We did learn that he is not a fan of going to the vet office 😬
Toto is a 16 year old chihuahua mix who loves his people and does well with other animals. He’s a laid back boy who would fit in well to just about any home. Toto does have some vision deficit due to cataracts, but he doesn’t let that stop him from exploring. As most oldies, he’s also got some hearing loss but that could be selective 😆
If you’d like to give this sweet boy his retirement home, let us know!

Ok everyone, here’s an update on what’s happening behind the scenes this week.
There are 3 dogs I’m desperately trying to help. One is an old beagle in a crowded shelter. He needs out and I’ve got a lovely foster home ready if we can pull.
Another is an extremely obese Chihuahua. I’m awaiting medical notes to tell me an idea of upcoming costs if we do take her in. She’s very sweet and just has not had proper care. The third is a tiny girl posted on a “free pets” page that often ends badly for these little seniors. Could I just scroll on by and let it be? Of course not.
But I can’t commit to these dogs without funds. There’s just no way any more medical needs can be added with our decrease in funding over the last few months. As much as I want to help and as deserving as they are, it takes money in order to say yes.

Here’s what I know:
🐾 tiny chihuahua- name is Whiskey and she’s about 7 pounds, 10 years old. Sweet and friendly, scared of little kids and fast movements. She will need all vaccines, microchip, and spayed. Needs a foster also.
🐾 beagle- will need vaccinated and of course, whatever is recommended from there that we have no way of knowing at the moment. Has a foster lined up.
🐾 obese chihuahua- owner wants to euthanize. Recent diagnosis of diabetes so will require management for that. She will need TLC, meds, and a good diet. Roughly 19 pounds, age 8. Very sweet. I am awaiting further medical notes on her. I absolutely cannot pull her without funds and a foster.

If you can help financially support any of these dogs please send via website:
www.taffystouchrescue.com/donate

If you’re interested in fostering any, please send a PM. Foster will need to be able to get the pup to our vet on the Westside of Indianapolis.

We need both….foster and funds before I can fully commit 🤞

🎁 Wish List Wednesday 🎁

We know so many of you want to help support our mission, and this is one of the easiest ways to directly help our current foster pups!

This week, we have a few seniors with some specific needs:

🐾 Two male foster dogs are in need of XS belly bands (washable or disposable). The photos below are just examples—any brand is appreciated!

🐾 One female foster dog is in need of medium-sized diapers (washable or disposable). Again, any brand is welcome.

These items help keep our foster dogs comfortable and make it easier for our amazing foster families to continue providing loving homes while these pups receive the care they need.

If you'd like to help with any of these items, please send us a message and we'll provide the address for the foster dog in need. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference for our senior dogs. ❤️
