The families of Byram have spoken.

We are proud to share this joint statement from the PTAs of New Lebanon School, Western Middle School, Hamilton Avenue School and BANC Raider Youth Football and supporting the proposed Municipal Improvement designation and FULL construction funding for the Morlot Park / Hamill Rink Project now before the RTM at the May 11 meeting.

These organizations directly represent the children, families, students, athletes, and residents who rely on these public facilities every single day. Their message is clear:

✔ Approve FULL funding now for the long-delayed Morlot Park / Hamill Rink Project
✔ Reaffirm Municipal Improvement status with no added conditions, funding cuts, or further delays
✔ Invest in the necessary improvements to Morlot Park and the replacement of Hamill Rink
✔ Support safe, modern, accessible recreational facilities for Greenwich families and future generations
✔ Avoid a multi-year shutdown of youth hockey, figure skating, and recreational skating programs
✔ Keep Hamill Rink in Byram, where generations of Greenwich families have relied on it for over 50 years

This project has gone through years of study, public input, engineering review, site evaluation, and community discussion. The work has been done.
Byram residents deserve the same thoughtful investment that has already strengthened our schools, neighborhood, and public infrastructure.
Now it’s time to move forward for the next generation. ⛸️⚾🌳

When Greenwich rebuilt New Lebanon School, the old building had reached the end of its life. The Town built a new state-of-the-art magnet school next to the old school so students could continue learning while the old school was removed.

Projects like this often face debate at first — but the results speak for themselves. Thoughtful investment and careful planning made New Lebanon one of the most successful public projects in our community.

Now it’s time to bring that same vision to Eugene Morlot Park.

After a 9-month public process, the Hamill Rink Task Force voted 8–1 to recommend keeping the rink in Byram and improving Morlot Park.

We’ve seen what thoughtful investment can do for Byram. Let’s do it again.

Worth a listen. 🎧

Thank you to Sue Moretti Bodson for putting this conversation out there and helping explain the work behind the recommendation for the future of Dorothy Hamill Rink.

After months of analysis, site review, environmental studies, and discussion, it’s helpful to hear the facts and the reasoning behind the process.

Grateful to the Hamill Rink Task Force and Chair Matt DesChamps for the transparency and thoughtfulness throughout.

Time to move forward.

RTM District 4 Meeting Tonight – Byram Firehouse 7:30pm

Now that the Planning & Zoning public hearing has concluded, the conversation about the future of Hamill Rink and Eugene Morlot Park continues locally.

Tonight the RTM District 4 meeting will be held at the Byram Firehouse at 7:30pm

For those unfamiliar, the RTM (Representative Town Meeting) is Greenwich’s legislative body. RTM members are elected representatives from each district and ultimately vote on major municipal projects, including improvements to town facilities, parks, and infrastructure.

Community participation matters.

Decisions about Byram should include the voices of the families who live here.

Byram families deserve a voice in the future of our community.

Morlot Park matters to families in Byram and across Greenwich.

For generations, Hamill Rink has been where neighbors gather in the winter — where kids take their first laps on the ice, families come together for public skate, and the community enjoys winter recreation close to home.

It’s part of what makes Morlot Park such a special place.

Investing in Morlot Park means strengthening a community space that families rely on year after year.

It’s time to move forward.

This is more than a rink.

It’s where kids train, compete, and build confidence.
It’s where families gather.
It’s one of the few public recreational assets serving the west side of Greenwich.

Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink supports youth programs, high school teams, and working families who depend on proximity and access.

The review process is complete. The need is documented.

Further delay doesn’t protect children — it disrupts them.

It’s time to move forward.

If you support keeping Hamill in Byram and protecting youth programs, make your voice heard.
