If you suspect abuse in any form please report it right away, don't wait for someone else to step up because it just might be to late by time they do! I started my personal fight in 2005. I have always been against abuse but I stepped up my fight when we lost a family member to abuse. Everyone always says "Oh it could never happen to me" or "It's to depressing to deal with" or "It's someone elses
problem" but the truth of the matter is it's everyones problem. Our children are our future and they are dieing for no reason. If we all take a stand and help put an end to the abuse we can save our children and our future. Any form of abuse is unacceptable, whether it be phycial, sexual, mental, or emotional abuse it has to end. Our children are living in fear and it breaks my heart. A child deserves to be loved and cared for, not bruised and broken. Nearly five children die every day in America from abuse and neglect. An estimated 1,770 children died from abuse in the United States. In the same year, Children’s Advocacy Centers around the country served over 254,000 child victims of abuse, providing victim advocacy and support to these children and their families. In 2011, this number was over 266,000. Among the over 141,000 children served by Children’s Advocacy Centers around the country from January through June 2011, some startling statistics include:
•53,932 children were ages 0 to 6 years
•51,196 children were ages 7 to 12 years
•36,131 children were ages 13 to 18 years
•95,120 children reported sexual abuse
•25,414 children reported physical abuse
•88,312 children participated in forensic interviewing at a Children’s Advocacy Center
Among the over 116,000 alleged offenders investigated for instances of child abuse from January through June 2011, some startling statistics include:
•75,829 were 18+ years old
•11,973 were ages 13 to 17 years
•7,911 were under age 13 years
•45,496 were a parent or step-parent of the victim
•23,763 were related to the child victim in another way
•36,628 were an unrelated person the victim knew
Child abuse kills more children in America than accidental falls, choking on food, suffocation or fires in the home. It is sad to reflect on how many innocent and vulnerable children are living in homes where abuse is a routine part of life. The statistics tell the heartbreaking tale. But if we all stand together and say enough is enough and put a stop to this madness I feel we can see these numbers drop a drastic amount.
