The City Nature Challenge is this weekend!

Be sure to download iNaturalist, create a profile, and get ready to observe some wildlife! Remember, all observations must be of wild subjects, meaning anything captive, planted, or cultivated will not count.

If you're new to iNaturalist, join Chase Harris for a free iNaturalist Training at Conestee Nature Preserve on Thursday, April 23rd at 8am meeting at the main entrance: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Rcf6VfhVnybHtFpt6

Did you know that observations of captive wildlife don't count for the City Nature Challenge? Captive means anything that was placed and/or is cared for by humans. Some common examples of captive wildlife in Greenville County include ornamental Crape-Myrtle, any plant found in a garden, the animals at the Greenville Zoo, and the swans in Furman University's Swan Lake!

Join us for Greenville's first-ever City Nature Challenge! From April 24th to 27th, observe any WILD plant, animal, or evidence of life within Greenville County and post your photos or audio to iNaturalist in order to participate!

Don't have an iNat account? It's super easy to create one at inaturalist.org! Then, just take a picture, share that photo to the iNaturalist app, and it'll automatically pull the time, date, and location metadata from your photo to autofill those sections of the form. After that, add your suggestion for what you saw, and other people can add their own suggestions to help determine the exact species observed!

This event is a great way to get outside while learning about and observing the natural world in your backyard, across the street, or in your favorite park!

Hope to see you in April!
