This is a great opportunity for families, veterans, community partners, and local businesses to be part of something meaningful right here in the Upstate.

25/05/2026

Today, we paused as a community to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

All gave some, but some gave all.

Memorial Day is our reminder to speak their names, honor their sacrifice, and stand with the families who carry that loss every day.

May we never forget the cost of freedom, or those who paid it in full. 🇺🇸

The event has been moved indoors, but the reason for the hike has not changed. Tomorrow is about making sure these honorees and their families feel the respect, gratitude, and support of the community around them. Thank you to everyone who will be taking the time to be there and helping make this moment so meaningful.

IMPORTANT PALMETTO HEROES HIKE 2026 UPDATE

Due to severe weather and storms expected in the area, this year’s Palmetto Heroes Hike will move indoors to ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers, honoree families, and staff.

The entire event will now take place inside Bon Secours Wellness Arena !

This year’s hike route will take place throughout the arena concourse, with opening and closing ceremonies held inside the arena as families of our honorees share the stories and legacies of their loved ones from the stage.

To help replace the longer outdoor route, hikers are encouraged to ruck and utilize the arena stairs throughout the event.

Event Schedule:
• 12-Mile Hiker Check-In: 7:00 AM
• 6-Mile Hiker Check-In: 9:00 AM
• Opening Ceremony: 10:00 AM
• Closing Ceremony: 12:20 PM
• After Party on the Arena Floor: 12:40 PM – 2:30 PM

Please enter through the Furman Entrance for registration.

Parking is available in the VIP Lot off Church Street and in the parking garage nearest the arena.

What to Bring:
• Signed waiver
• Water bottles and snacks
• American flags

Reminder:
This event is a memorial hike, not a race.

For the safety of the group, bikes, scooters, and similar items are not permitted. Strollers are welcome. Please leave pets at home unless they are service dogs.

While the format may look different this year, the mission remains the same:
to honor the fallen, support their families, and stand together as one community committed to ensuring these heroes are never forgotten.

We look forward to welcoming nearly 300 registered participants for this unique Palmetto Heroes Hike experience inside BSWA.

Online registration is now closed. Walk-ups are welcome!

Today’s joint legislative meeting was a strong reminder of what can happen when coordination and collaboration are at the center of serving Veterans and their families.

UVAN and the Midlands Veteran Engagement Council were proud to come together at Newberry College for our first joint gathering, bringing partners from across the Upstate and Midlands into the same room with legislative staff from South Carolina’s congressional delegation.

The goal was simple but important: create space for shared information, meaningful discussion, and stronger connection between the organizations working every day to support Veterans in our communities.

We are incredibly grateful to Newberry College for being such a welcoming host and helping make this meeting possible. Thank you to everyone who helped coordinate, participated, asked questions, and contributed to the conversation.

When regions work together, we strengthen our collective voice, better understand the needs across our communities, and continue building a more connected network of support for those who served.
