You know what’s better than one dog? A dog who comes with a built-in best friend.

Reintroducing Jack and Luna! These three-year-old siblings are looking for a forever home together. We know it’s a big ask, but we have faith their person is out there.

Their family was deported, and with no other family here to take them in, Jack and Luna suddenly found themselves in a shelter. They’re currently housed separately, but thankfully still get to visit, play, and go on walks together.

I got to spend a day with them for Doggy Day Out , and here’s what I learned!

Jack is the big brother: confident, chill, and independent. He’s happy to hang out and do his own thing.

Luna is his little sister: a little more needy and affectionate, and usually the one who gets Jack riled up! Together, they run zoomies, romp around the house, and happily play with each other.

These two would make incredible adventure buddies. Hiking, running, long walks, exploring new places? They’re down for it!

They’re also bilingual! Unfortunately, I’m not, so I couldn’t chat with them in Spanish, but they responded really well to English. They don’t know “sit” just yet, but they take treats gently and seem eager to learn.

A few more things to know:
-They’re house-trained.
-They love car rides!
-They’re good with other dogs.
-No cats, please!

Everyone who knows Jack and Luna would love to see them adopted together.

They’ve already lost their family once. They deserve a second chance at a life filled with love, stability, adventures, and, most importantly, each other.

I have a confession: I’ve secretly wanted to take Blue out for a while now.

I first saw him a few weeks ago, and he stopped me in my tracks. You see, Blue reminds me SO much of my dog, Quincy. She was almost twice his size, but the markings, the mannerisms, the energy… it’s uncanny.

So when I heard he needed some extra exposure, I was quick to say yes!

Before we left the shelter, I was warned that Blue is very strong and can pull hard on the leash. I was bracing myself, but he actually walked GREAT! Most dogs I take out pull more at the beginning of a walk before they burn off some steam. Blue was the opposite. He was chill from the start.

He did pull when we saw another dog on our walk and again when we went outside to meet a visitor at the house. Based on how he interacted with the visitor, I think it was excitement. He was ALL wiggles!

Blue is only two years old, so he has that younger-dog energy, but he also does a great job entertaining himself. I work from home, and he happily played with his new toys while I got things done.

A few other things I learned about Blue:
* He’s house-trained.
* He sits perfectly for treats and takes them very gently.
* He’s affectionate without being overly clingy.
* I haven’t heard him bark once! I’ve visited him at the shelter several times and spent time with him at home now. I’m sure he has his moments, but so far, not a p*ep!
* He LOVES car rides. He needed a little boost to get into my truck because it sits higher off the ground, but once he was in he took full advantage of having the windows down.

And then there’s his looks. Blue is a STRIKINGLY handsome dog. He’s the kind of dog who makes people stop and stare.

Blue is a dog that checks all the boxes. He’s handsome, sweet, playful, and so much fun to spend time with.

If you’re looking for a snuggly dog, I need to you to stop scrolling right now because I have the PERFECT little man for you!!

Meet Scallywag!

He’s 2-year-old Pit Bull who has been waiting at shelter since August.

I *almost* didn’t take him because I saw that he’d just had a Doggy Day Out, but staff told me he was being overlooked and needs our help getting eyes on him.

Well, let me just say, I am so glad I took him. He is one of the sweetest, snuggliest boys I’ve met in a LONG time. He doesn’t just want to be near you, he wants to be with you. Preferably touching you.

His snuggles were SO good for my soul.

A few more things to love about this boy:

BALL IS LIFE. He LOVES to play, and I hope his future home has an endless supply of tennis balls. Or, dare I say, an actual ball pit.

He walks well on leash, but if he spots or catches the scent of a squirrel, he may pull HARD in pursuit. This is an easy enough thing to work on, just worth nothing.

Want a running buddy? He could be a great companion for someone who enjoys getting out and moving!

He rides well in the car. I did have to pick him up, but once he got in, he laid right now & rode like a dream.

He’s good with other dogs but I’d venture to say no cats. 

He doesn’t meet a stranger. Men, women, kids- he’s happy to love on everyone he meets! He truly just wants to love and be loved.

I genuinely don’t understand how this sweet boy is still being overlooked. What I do know is that somewhere out there, there’s a person who needs this kind of love just as much as he needs a family.

Update: Pascal was rescued by Pitt Friends (aka FPCAS). He’s still looking for his forever family.

Pascal has been waiting for 8 months now for his people and I’m honestly a bit perplexed as to why.

I got to spend the day with him for Doggy Day Out a few months ago and he’s SUCH a good dog. Here are a few highlights:

He’s only two years old and on the smaller side- just 40 lbs!

He walks well on a leash, will jog if you want but is also happy to walk alongside you.

He LOVES rolling around in the grass.

He takes treats gently, knows sit.

Peed a lot while we were outside, but did not try to do so while inside so he’s likely house trained. He kicks his back legs after he p*es, which is the sign of a confident boy!

He was nervous getting into the car but ok once driving. He liked riding sh***un.

He was great around 3 kids under 10- didn’t show much interest in them overall. Wasn’t deterred by their bike, skooter or toys.

He is a love bug- loved climbing all over me and giving me kisses (totally ok with me!).

He’s great with other dogs— he’s tested well with several females, can be dominant with males. The shelter can help with intros!

He’s stunning! Have you ever seen such gorgeous eyes?!

They lost their family, now they’re hoping they don’t lose each other, too.

Meet Jack and Luna, a three-year-old mixed-breed brother and sister duo who are looking for a forever home together.

Their story is heartbreaking.

Jack and Luna had a family who loved them, but their family was deported. With no one else here who could take them in, these two siblings suddenly found themselves in a shelter.

They’re currently housed separately, but thankfully, they still get to visit each other, play, and go on walks together.

Jack is the big brother. He’s confident, chill, and independent, happy to hang out and do his own thing.

Luna is his little sister, and she’s a bit more affectionate and needy. She’s also usually the one who gets Jack riled up! Together, they run zoomies, romp around the house, and happily play with each other.

Bonded pairs can be incredibly difficult to find homes for. Most people aren’t looking to bring two dogs home at once. But what’s better than one dog? A dog who comes with a built-in best friend.

Everyone who knows Jack and Luna would love to see them adopted together. They’ve already lost their family once. They deserve a second chance, and we believe that second chance can be a life filled with love, stability, adventures, and, most importantly, each other.

UPDATE: Over the moon to share that Gigi, now Gracie, is officially adopted & has the most wonderful new family + sister!

I’m coming to you today with a desperate plea for Gigi. She is code red at the shelter because she has started to mentally break down. She needs a miracle and she needs it now.

I took Gigi home for a Doggy Day Out a few weeks ago. I only spent a few hours with her, but in that time, I watched the stress and fear melt from her body. I could see her visibly decompress.

Now, every week when I go to the shelter, I visit Gigi and she is always so happy to see me. She jumps up to say hello, or she scoots as close to the kennel door as possible so I can love on her. So to hear that she is having such a negative reaction is both shocking and heartbreaking.

Gigi is only 9 months old and she’s spent 5 of those months in a shelter. She is well loved by staff and volunteer but if you spend 5 minutes it a shelter, you will understand how easily a dog could become stressed and overstimulated.

She’s great with other dogs and okay with cats. I think a confident dog could help show her the ropes and teach her how to be a dog outside of the shelter, but she doesn’t necessarily need one.

Gigi doesn’t need someone to “fix” her. She needs someone willing to give her the time, patience, and safety to finally feel like she’s allowed to be a puppy.

It is breaking my heart into a million pieces knowing that this sweet girl is deteriorating in a place that she has already spent more than half of her life.

I need to see Gigi get the chance to THRIVE outside of the shelter. But I need your help to make that happen.

Build Timmy’s new play area with me!

Meet Humphrey! He’s a 5 year old mixed breed male available for adoption at Pitt County Animal Shelter

A few things I learned about Humphrey on our Doggy Day Out:

He’s an A+ car rider; he sits down almost immediately and chills.

He’s high energy but also settles quickly once he gets his wiggles out. He loves walking next to trees/structures, so he would be an amazing hiking/adventure buddy.

He is highly treat-motivated & a quick learner.

I also learned he’s heartworm positive. We just went through this with our dog Luke last year so I’m happy to share our experience! I do not want this to hinder his adoption!! Luke was in Stage 3 Heart Failure last March, and he was just cleared medically- heartworm negative & his heart failure was healed.

Overall, he is such an amazing boy and will make the best buddy for whoever adopts him!
