Not everything you hear about adoption is true.
And for the families and women we walk with, those misconceptions can carry real weight.
So today, instead of April Fools… we’re sharing a few Adoption Myths vs. Truths 💛
MYTH: Adoption is a second choice
TRUTH: Adoption is a deeply intentional choice—one that requires courage, love, and faith from everyone involved.
MYTH: Birth mothers are giving up their babies
TRUTH: Birth mothers are making a thoughtful, loving decision for their child’s future- often with incredible strength and sacrifice.
MYTH: Adoptive families are “rescuing” a child
TRUTH: Adoption is not about rescue—it’s about relationship. It’s a thoughtful, intentional way of building a family while honoring the child’s story and the role of their birth family.
MYTH: Adoption becomes easy once you decide to pursue it
TRUTH: Adoption can be beautiful, but it is not simple. It’s a journey that requires deep trust, patience, and resilience from everyone involved.
MYTH: You have to be wealthy to adopt
TRUTH: While adoption can be costly, we believe finances should never be the reason a family can’t say yes—and we’re working every day to change that.
MYTH: Birth mothers can’t parent
TRUTH: Many birth mothers are capable of parenting but make a thoughtful and difficult decision to pursue adoption out of deep love—desiring what they believe is best for their child’s future.
MYTH: Adoption is a one-time decision that ends after placement
TRUTH: Adoption is a lifelong story. It impacts birth parents, adoptees, and adoptive families in ongoing ways—and ethical adoption honors and supports those relationships over time.
At Flourish, we believe truth matters.
Because how we talk about adoption shapes how we support the people inside of it.
