Did you know Al-Anon’s World Service Office (WSO) has a free email newsletter?

“In The Loop” makes it easy for Al-Anon members worldwide to stay informed about events, service opportunities, new resources, and highlights from Al-Anon literature.

What started long ago with Lois W. mailing letters to early Al-Anon Family Groups has evolved into a modern, multilingual newsletter—available in English, Spanish, and French. Delivered twice a month (plus special editions), it’s the easiest way to stay connected.

“When we serve in public outreach for Al-Anon Family Groups, we share clear information without promotion or pressure, attracting people who are seeking help and cooperating with those who serve them. Even small efforts can help someone find hope and connection.”

“Attracting and Cooperating: Best Practices for Tradition Eleven,” “The Forum,” September 2026

Many think that the only person who can benefit from a recovery program are the people struggling with an alcohol addiction. They don’t realize that those surrounding the alcoholic also need support. That is where Al-Anon Family Groups come in.

In local and virtual groups, members come together to support each other and recover from the family disease of alcoholism. These weekly meetings provide them with a safe, anonymous place to be heard, feel supported, and learn new ways to deal with their problems.

If you have been affected by someone else’s drinking, consider visiting a meeting once a week for the next six weeks. If you feel better when the meeting is over, maybe you will decide to stay and begin your own journey to a happier, more serene life.

“One of the things I appreciate most about Alateen is that it is not a religious program. We focus on a Higher Power of our own understanding, which removes the pressure of needing to share the same beliefs as everyone else. This environment has taught me that it is okay not to be okay. Having this foundation gives me the confidence to be my authentic self, even when I face judgment or peer pressure at school. It helps me stay grounded and focused on making good choices for myself, so I don't get into trouble.”

“Protecting My Peace,” “The Forum,” August 2026

Alateen is for teens who have been affected by the family disease of alcoholism. Most Alateen groups are for teens from age 13-18. If you’re wondering if you have been affected by someone else’s drinking, you can answer a couple questions to find out:

Calling Multilingual Al-Anon Members!

Translating Al-Anon Family Group literature into Spanish and French is just the beginning of the World Service Office’s international work with service structures across the globe who wish to translate and reprint our literature into their native languages. Part of this process includes an independent review of translated Al-Anon literature to ensure it is faithful to the spiritual tone and message of the original. If you are fluent in Georgian, Swahili, Arabic, Czech, or Mongolian as well as English and would be willing to serve as an independent reviewer, please email [email protected] with your contact information and the languages (other than Spanish or French) in which you have proficiency.

Early in my dad’s sobriety, my mom was very involved with his recovery and it felt like she didn’t care about me. I felt lonely and scared. I would try to get her attention, but when she was tense, she would snap at me. In Alateen, I can talk about my feelings and my Alateen friends accept me for who I am. Now I understand that my mom has been affected by my dad’s alcoholism as much as I have.

If your family has been affected by the family disease of alcoholism, you may want to try an Alateen meeting.

“I also find so much comfort in the flexibility of the Alateen program. Life can be overwhelming. Knowing that if I have a difficult week, I can attend multiple Alateen meetings whenever I need extra support is a true lifesaver. Alateen is a safe space specifically for kids and teens ages 19 and under. To the parents and guardians here: please consider bringing your kids and teens to Alateen. It truly makes a difference.”
