Dr. King understood that racial justice and economic justice are inseparable. He called poverty a moral failing of systems, not of people, and urged us to confront the structures that limit opportunity, dignity, and access for too many communities.

On this MLK Day, we reflect on his belief that a just society is one where everyone has the resources to thrive: stable housing, meaningful work, quality education, and the freedom to live without discrimination. At Jolley Foundation, we carry forward this legacy by investing in solutions that reduce poverty, dismantle barriers, and advance equity because justice delayed is justice denied.

Jolley Foundation is thrilled to welcome three new members to our Board of Trustees: Tiffany Santagati, JoKeitha Seabrook, and Dr. Christian Barrientos.

Each brings a depth of experience and leadership rooted in justice, compassion, and equity. Their collective expertise, which spans community development, education, and organizational leadership, will strengthen our mission to eliminate the root causes and effects of poverty and discrimination in Greenville County.

As we continue aligning our community contributions with our mission and strategic direction, we’re grateful for their commitment to building a community where everyone has the resources, voice, and opportunity to thrive.

Hispanic and Latinx communities enrich our lives with vibrant cultures, powerful stories, and remarkable contributions that help make our community better. This month, we celebrate the artists, educators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders whose work strengthens our neighborhoods and inspires the next generation.

Across the Upstate, local organizations are fostering education, mentorship, and cultural programs that not only support our Hispanic and Latinx neighbors but also help to create a community where everyone can thrive. Supporting these efforts helps ensure that their voices are heard, their stories are celebrated, and their impact acknowledged.

Uplift Hispanic and Latinx voices in our community by supporting local programs like Hispanic Alliance or Mosaic Educational & Arts Program that educate, inspire, and empower. Together, we celebrate culture, resilience, and the power of community.

September is Literacy Month!

Every person deserves the gift of reading and writing, the power to learn, grow, and dream. Yet many in our community face barriers to literacy that limit opportunity and potential.

This month, we celebrate the Greenville Literacy Association and the Augustine Literacy Project of the Upstate, two incredible local organizations working to close the literacy gap in our community. From tutoring programs to access to books, they are transforming lives one person at a time.

Join us in supporting their work. Your time, donations, or volunteer efforts can help ensure everyone has the tools to succeed.upstate

August marks Black Philanthropy Month. Established in 2011 by Dr. Jackie Bouvier Copeland and the Pan-African Women’s Philanthropy Network, it is a global celebration dedicated to uplifting the spirit of giving, community investment, and mutual aid within Black communities. This powerful movement honors a rich legacy and ignites crucial conversations about racial equity in philanthropy.

Did you know that, despite persistent wealth gaps, Black households give 25% more of their income annually than White households and contribute approximately $11 billion to charitable causes each year? These acts of generosity are a testament to the enduring strength and commitment of Black communities.

On Women’s Equality Day 2025, we celebrate the progress made toward gender equality while recognizing the important journey that remains. We must remain dedicated to advancing the rights of all women and girls, and commit to empowering them as we strive for a more just, peaceful, and sustainable future for all.

A new school year means new opportunities, and it takes all of us to help our children thrive. Education is not the work of teachers alone, but of the whole community.

That’s why we partner with incredible organizations across Greenville — from advocacy to afterschool programs, enrichment, and beyond — to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

The Executive Director of the Greenville Literacy Association, Victoria Novak, does an outstanding job of conveying the potential outcomes of our community uniting for this weekend's upcoming event.

"Every book sold fuels life-changing learning." Victoria Novak

Morning Gratitude! Right now, McAlister Square/University Center is quiet with the exception of a few mall walkers, but very soon thousands of book lovers will walk through 3 wings of this mall perusing over 📚 106,000 books. We surpassed our kickoff party goal and will welcome 370 guests on Thursday night and another 10,000 or so shoppers over the weekend.

And one mission behind it all: unlocking the power of education for every adult who walks through our doors at GLA! Every book sold fuels life-changing learning.

1 in 5 adults read at or below the 3rd grade reading level in SC. Over 65,000 working aged adults are undereducated without a high school diploma, GED or lack fluency in English. We have the key to unlock their potential and the people to help build their confidence.

Leading Greenville Literacy Association has become one of the greatest joys of my life. This week’s energy has been incredible—and we know our community will show up in a big way. Our team has pulled together, our book room volunteers have worked tirelessly throughout the year and our board of directors guide with precision and passion.

Huge thanks to our sponsors, book sale volunteers, book drives, stakeholders and ‘customers’. You are a special part of our story — 24th Annual “Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap” Book sale. It goes without saying but must be said, Ellen Lane — thank you for being an amazing leader of this event!

With Joy & Gratitude,
Victoria
GLA Executive Director

This morning Jolley Foundation staff had the privilege of volunteering with - a great organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for homebound seniors through nutritious meals, meaningful personal connections, and greater independence.

We were warmly welcomed and kindly guided through the meal-packing process by their dedicated volunteers & staff—some volunteering weekly for years—this was a powerful reminder of the human side of service.

These volunteers bring food and hope, delivering not just nourishment but companionship and dignity to individuals who might otherwise go without.

Hearing their stories was a reminder that community is built through quiet, consistent acts of care. In just 1.5 hours, we helped pack 1,235 meals—each one destined for a neighbor who might otherwise go without.

Happy Independence Day!
