Due to our repeater being down, tonight's Darke County ARES Net will be held on 146.790 simplex. We'll transmit and receive on 146.790. The 94.8Hz PL will still be necessary to pass through the Echolink/Allstar/DMR link, but it will be switched to simplex also. Hope to hear you!

Hopefully everyone made it through the storms this morning. The TCARA did sustain some storm damage, however. Several of us noticed after the storm that we couldn't bring up the 146.790 repeater.

I immediately began to run through possibilities in my head of what the issue could be. Maybe it's antenna and feedline related, or maybe it was power related. When I was heading home for lunch, I made a trip by the Sheriff's Office. I was able to bring up the repeater from close by.

As I got closer, my stomach dropped as I saw a chunk of feedline flapping in the breeze. This, plus almost no range on the repeater at all tells me that it's likely ours.

Over the past couple of years, our noise issues have varied so widely that it's been hard to make a solid determination on the cause. As of this morning, it's my guess that we're looking at a feedline repair, or a whole new run of 1/2 inch heliax.

I'm told someone will possibly be there on Friday about a light repair. Hopefully I can join in on that meeting. More info to follow, but for now the main thing is that our 146.790 repeater is off the air until repaired.

Even though the repeater is off, I'll still leave the other link functions on, since they're not directly connected to the repeater. The links should all talk to each other if anyone would like to use them.

The weekly ARES net will need to be discussed.

Feel free to try out the 443.6875 DMR/P25 Repeater here in Greenville, and also the 462.675 (206.5Hz) repeater for those with a GMRS license. More repeater info at http://www.w8flh.net

Also, don't forget to check out our Discord Server. A simple app on your portable cell/tablet, or in the browser on your PC gets you on our private chat server without all the social media noise. Check it out at: https://discord.gg/n8AHpv9NuD

Stay tuned for more updates as I find out what's next.

This Saturday, we’ll be assisting Main Street Greenville with their annual Hometown Holiday Horse Parade, and the lighted tractor parade following. The parade will step off at 7:00PM, and we’ll be extra eyes along the route.

If you have an amateur radio license (Technician class or higher), bring a radio along, or there may be loaners available. We’ll meet at the Greenville Fire Dept, just west of the traffic circle, at 6:00PM to organize and assign our posts. The parade net will operate on the 146.790 W8FLH Repeater (CTCSS Tone of 94.8Hz).

Saturday is getting closer! Don’t forget that the Fox Hunt will start at 10:00am. We’ll be meeting at Spirit Medical Transport. I’m including a link (in the comments for simplicity)that shows a simpler project we could do as a group some time, and would help in Fox Hunts. The Active/Offset Attenuator helps dial down a stronger signal, so you can better tell the direction it’s coming from. Several years ago, a similar design was built as a club project, and they work very well.

Also, if you don’t have directional equipment to hunt on Saturday, feel free to come along anyhow. Nothing like a fun time to learn and socialize! — Adam, W8FLH

Hello! Facebook is a great place to post about our latest activities, etc. A lot of folks aren’t on social media, and we’ve been looking at supplementing or online connections together among members and those interested in radio. Other area clubs have been using Discord for some time, and we’ve decided to give it a try. It’s much quieter, and more focused on the particular group(s) you want to interact with.

This page isn’t going away, and we’ll still post things. We’re just looking to add another tool to our belt. Feel free to check it out at:
