Alumni Spotlight: Deputy Jordan Stevenson

“In a single second, life can change forever.”

Due to the heroic actions of Deputy Jordan Stevenson (’22, Criminal Justice) and Deputy Connor O’Shields of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, a young girl was rescued after she fell into a swimming pool and stopped breathing. The dramatic video footage highlights the critical role first responders play in our communities. We are grateful God used these officers’ training to prevent a tragic outcome and give this child a second chance at life.

Lance Crowe, BJU Criminal Justice faculty and former Travelers Rest police chief, said, “Professor Davis and I extend our highest praise to both these deputies for their quick thinking and decisive action that saved this baby’s life, and we’re incredibly humbled to have spent time with Jordan in his years in the Criminal Justice program that helped prepare him for this day.”

This spring, 74 students from across the country completed their degrees online through BJU SCOPE—a milestone that represents far more than diplomas earned.

Hannah Koop – MA, Sport Administration and Coaching, appreciated being able to continue working while deepening her education through a flexible online format.

“It allowed me to work and do my coursework online, so it was very flexible and very helpful. I could take all of the skills I learned in undergrad and now transform that and learn on a deeper level.”

Another one of our current BJU students doing amazing things in their community even before graduation!

This spring, we were incredibly blessed to have Kelly serve as an intern with our ministry. Kelly came alongside our Executive Director in support of planning our April fundraiser, Overcoming Through Hope, serving as a true right-hand person throughout the process.

Working together with our other committee members, it truly became a dream team. Kelly was instrumental in keeping things moving forward and in spreading awareness of our mission.

On the night of the event, Kelly was everywhere at once. At one point, she was training volunteers while her cell phone was ringing and her walkie-talkie was going off at the same time. Busy? Absolutely. Calm under pressure? Yes. A make-it-happen kind of intern; Kelly was exactly who we needed.

Now, Kelly is spending her summer serving in missions, which beautifully reflects the heart behind how our clinic ministry was founded. We are so grateful for her compassion and dedication.

Thank you, Kelly! We are cheering you on this summer! 💙
