Last Wednesday, Scouts from Troop 42 participated in a special criminal justice presentation led by Assistant Scoutmaster Cowles as part of their Fingerprinting merit badge. They explored the history and science behind fingerprints and examined a real-life case file that demonstrated how fingerprint evidence is used in criminal prosecutions. They put their learning into practice by taking and analyzing their own fingerprints.

Troop 42 had a fantastic time this past Saturday as Scouts and their families gathered at Hoe Bowl Catskill Lanes for an afternoon of bowling and quality time together. It was a great chance to unwind and enjoy some friendly competition. Thanks to everyone who came out and made the day a fun success!

Despite the comfort of heated cabins during our Winter “Campout" at Camp Tri-Mount Scout Reservation, our Scouts braved below-zero temperatures and high winds to enjoy the snow and tackle the challenge of building a campfire in the extreme conditions. Indoors, they warmed up with cooking, hot chocolate, snacks, and lots of laughs over games.

Greenville Pack 42 gathered Saturday for its annual Blue & Gold ceremony, honoring Webelos Scouts who achieved the Arrow of Light, Cub Scouting’s highest rank and the pathway to Scouts BSA. The Scouts then crossed a symbolic bridge, where they were welcomed by Troop 42 to begin the next chapter of their Scouting journey in Greenville and beyond. Congratulations to all of these boys and their families; and for those continuing with us — welcome to the troop!

This weekend’s Klondike Derby was postponed due to dangerously low temperatures, so the troop pivoted to plan B. With prior interest in indoor climbing, we brought the adventure inside at Mustangs Bouldering in Kingston. After a brief review of safety guidelines and climbing etiquette, Scouts had a great time tackling a variety of bouldering walls at different difficulty levels.

Troop 42 and its families recently gathered for our biannual advancement ceremony, a tradition that highlights the achievements our Scouts have earned and celebrates their rank progress. This season, an impressive 67 awards were presented for accomplishments and merit badges earned since summer — quite the haul! We are also thrilled to welcome four new Scouts who have joined our ranks since the last ceremony. Congratulations to all our Scouts on their hard work, and a warm welcome to our newest members!

P.S. There's no wrong time to join Scouts BSA! If you have a youth that would be interested, let us know... we're happy to have visitors!

Yesterday, Troop 42 had the privilege of visiting the New York Army National Guard Joint Forces Headquarters in Latham at the invitation of Lt. Col. Gavin, one of our troop parents. We learned about the mission of The National Guard and its role at the state, national, and global levels.

After presentations from Lt. Col. Gavin, Col. Tabankin, and Gen. Wisniewski, the Scouts set out on a hands-on tour of real military equipment. They started with gear ranging from heat- and night-vision scopes to pistols and machine guns — getting a feel for the real weight and physical demands of each tool.

Next, they climbed into a Humvee, took the driver’s seat, and even got into the turret to dry-fire the .50-caliber machine gun. The tour wrapped up in the hangar, where Scouts stepped inside Blackhawk and Lakota helicopters.

Every Scout went home with an MRE of their choice and a few extra goodies. Huge thanks to Lt. Col. Gavin and the entire New York National Guard for welcoming us to Joint Forces HQ and taking the time to answer all our questions!
