Who Are We?

"Rooted here, connected to home, building Montagnard futures together."

We exist to unite and strengthen the Montagnard community through education, cultural preservation, youth leadership, refugee support, civic engagement, and whole-person wellness—so every generation can belong, thrive, and lead.

📖 Who are we
The Montagnard Association of North Carolina Inc. (MANC) is a nonprofit founded in 1986 as Montagnard Dega Association Inc. and based in Greensboro and a chapter in Raleigh, North Carolina. We are a direct services nonprofit organization- by people and purpose—and we carry our languages, arts, and stories forward while meeting the day‑to‑day needs of families who’ve made North Carolina home. We also nurture youth-led spaces like the Montagnard American Organization (MAO), the Traditional Montagnard Dance, Lunova dance collective, and wellness for soccer—giving young people places to grow skills, connect, pride, and voice.

💼 What We Do
We create programs that strengthen identity and open doors. Through Traditional Arts Programs for Students (TAPS), we teach Montagnard dance and music, weaving, and language—Rhade, Jorai/Jarai, Bunong—alongside English classes. We host Wellness Fridays, Saturdays, and host events that bring community together around movement, connection, and mental health. We support youth and families through Montagnard youth soccer and parent wellness sessions. We offer internships and service‑learning, help neighbors prepare for citizenship, and organize voter registration and outreach. Day to day, We’re there with interpretation and translation, case management, employment support, and health care enrollment assistance—practical help that makes stability possible.

⚙️ How We Work
We’re a community‑led, culturally grounded, and partnership‑driven. We listen first, design programs with our community and staff for—our families, community, and build programs that celebrate heritage while solving real problems. Our communication is open and invitational; we’re alway bringing in volunteers, partners, and donors who want to stand with Montagnard communities for the long haul.

🌍 What Drives Us
Preserving culture and expanding opportunity go hand in hand for us. We protect the songs, dances, textiles, and languages that define us, while investing in education, leadership, and civic participation that shape our shared future. Looking ahead, we’re planning a Montagnard Community Wellness Center in Greensboro with classrooms, community meeting and training rooms, a dance studio, kitchen, adult and children’s art rooms, outdoor fields for soccer and volleyball, a community garden, traditional museum houses, and small homes for unhouse elders—space designed for learning, healing, and belonging.
