We did a very special adoption this weekend. Our bonded bengal brothers, Theo and Jett, have left the building!
If you have visited us you may have realized we had some exotic cats, purebred bengals to be exact. In the nearly 10 years we’ve been doing rescue with Red Dog Farm, we haven’t had a single request for help rehoming bengals. Earlier this year a family had to give up these boys due to allergies in the home that weren’t responding to any treatments. I know the family must’ve been heartbroken to give these guys up, and I’ll say this - I couldn’t be happier that they sought out a rescue to help re-home their beloved pets rather than reselling them. Bengals usually go for a few thousand dollars, so I’m sure they could have found an eager buyer.
This is the first time we are publicly posting about them because we were super protective about finding the right home for them. Finding the right home was actually quite challenging and took a few months, much longer than anyone would think for a couple purebred cats. Bengals are not like the average domestic shorthair cat. Bengals require more activities to keep them busy, they can be territorial and just aren’t good pets for anyone who doesn’t have extensive experience with cat ownership. So needless to say we were going to be selective, especially since their adoption fee was the same as all the other cats in the program.
The home we found for these boys couldn’t be more perfect, and we’ve already heard that they are settling in well and seem to be enjoying their new domain! Complete with a sunroom, a cat wheel and plenty of cat towers and places to sunbathe and watch the birds.
Anyways, just wanted to share this story because it’s what keeps us going through the bad days.
The second they left a vacuum was sensed in the room. Jett was no longer following me around and talking to me. But the best thing was to let these boys go off to a real home, a home better suited for them than what I could have offered. And the vacuum was filled an hour later when 2 new kittens arrived 🤣.
