🚒 Exciting Sea Scout Ship 3 (Greensboro, NC) News! 🌊

Ship 3’s very own Boatswain is one of only eight Sea Scouts selected this year to participate aboard the USCGC Barque Eagle in San Diego! βš“

Known as β€œAmerica’s Tall Ship,” the Barque Eagle is a 295-foot, three-masted sailing vessel used by the U.S. Coast Guard for training future officers. Built in 1936, she serves as both a classroom at sea and a symbol of maritime tradition β€” and sailing on her is an unforgettable honor.

During their summer cruise, the crew had a special visit from former National Sea Scout Commodore and retired USCG Vice Admiral Charles Wuester β€” an incredible moment of mentorship and inspiration for all on board.

πŸ“Έ A true honor for our Ship, the SSS Maxatollah, and the Sea Scout program! 🌟

HAPPY NATIONAL COAST GUARD DAY

National Coast Guard Day on August 4 celebrates and honors the courageous work of the service members of Coast Guard. Today, we salute all Coast Guard members, active and inactive, for their service to our country.

Sea Scout Ship 3 (Greensboro, NC) is chartered to US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 26-7 and is based at Hagan Sea Base, one of the oldest in Scouting America.

In a few weeks, Ship 3 Boatswain Ava will be aboard the USCGC Eagle (WIX-327), formerly Horst Wessel and also known as Barque Eagle. This is a 295-foot (90 m) barque used as a training cutter for future officers of the United States Coast Guard. She is one of only two active commissioned sailing vessels in the United States military today, along with USS Constitution.

On this day, five years ago, Sea Scout Ship 3 (Greensboro, NC) created something truly unforgettable with Troops 219 and 600. In the midst of the COVID era, we rented out Camp Cherokee for an entire week and delivered one of the most incredible summer camp experiences imaginable.

While the world was far from normal, Ship 3 brought the spirit of Scouting to life by mimicking a full week of traditional summer campβ€”then added a few extra touches that made it even more special.

Despite the challenges of the time, that week stands as one of the top Scouting memories in Ship 3’s history. Huge thanks to everyone who helped make it possible and to the Scouts and leaders who made the adventure unforgettable.

Although that generation of Scouts is gone, the current members of Ship 3 are keeping the spirit of Scouting alive in the Ship.

πŸŒŠβš“ Sea Scout Ship 3 (Greensboro, NC) is back on the water and continuing their yearly "long cruise" off the beautiful coast of North Carolina!

We’ve just departed the Manteo area and are once again sailing alongside fellow Ships from CST-15 β€” building skills, friendships, and unforgettable memories out at sea. In Manteo, we toured the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and attended a performance of The Lost Colony.

Smooth sailing, great company, and the spirit of adventure β€” this is what Sea Scouting is all about! β›΅

This past weekend, Ship 3 (Greensboro, NC) had an incredible time at the annual Sea Scout Academy held at historic Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia! πŸŒŠβ›΅

Our Scouts dove into hands-on training in keelboat sailing, dinghy sailing, windsurfing, paddlecraft, and stand-up paddleboarding. They also explored specialized programs like Wilderness First Aid and the adventurous "Realm of the Golden Dragon," and competed in the exciting Commodore’s Cup sailboat race! πŸ†πŸŒ¬οΈπŸš£β€β™€οΈ

Huge thanks to the Colonial Virginia Council for organizing this fantastic event.

Events like these are what the Sea Scouts BSA program is all about β€” giving youth (ages 14–20) amazing opportunities for leadership, seamanship, and high-adventure aquatic experiences. 🌟

Tonight, Sea Scout Ship 3 upheld a cherished tradition in observance of Memorial Day β€” placing flags at the graves of those who served our country.

This meaningful act took place at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Grove United Methodist Church, where our Ship meets each Thursday evening. It's a small but heartfelt way for our Scouts to honor the sacrifices of the brave men and women who gave their lives in service.

We are proud to carry on this tradition and grateful for the opportunity to serve β€” not just on the water, but in our community as well. πŸŒŠβš“οΈβ€οΈ
