Getting a pink ribbon license plate is an easy way to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Proceeds go to helping women who may not be able to afford preventative screenings like mammograms, which makes a huge impact in our state-wide and local community. 🥰

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, even your license plate can go PINK 💗

When you choose an Indiana Breast Cancer Plate, $25 supports breast cancer screenings and diagnostic services for Hoosiers who may otherwise struggle to access care.

Since 2002, the program has raised more than $7 million across Indiana!

Hancock Health is proud to be one of the organizations supported by this initiative. The funding helps uninsured and underinsured women in our community access mammograms, ultrasounds, MRIs, and other important breast health services.

October is National Depression and Mental Health Screening Awareness Month.
✅ Screenings are an important tool used by providers that can help them to understand more about a patient's background, emotional and mental health and more.
Depression screenings can quite literally save lives by allowing individuals to answer simple questions privately, removing the shame and stigma of asking for help.

Meet Kevin Knott, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Kevin works out of Hancock Counseling & Psychiatric Services, providing treatment to individuals, couples and families. "I have been inspired to work in this profession to assist others through challenging and difficult parts of life by several individuals who were encouraging to me including professionals, friends and family."

For him, it is heartening to see the changes that occur in people. "This is so rewarding when someone who may have been struggling for a long time realizes they have the ability and strength within to empower themselves and the return of happiness and an ability to cope effectively in daily life. This is often a healthy game changer!"

Kevin says that the most rewarding part of his job is helping to make a real difference in the lives of those who are struggling.

DYK 11/14/26 is Lung Screening Day? That day, a Saturday, Gateway Hancock Health Imaging at I70 & Mt. Comfort Road will be open for lung screenings. Talk to your provider and take advantage of the convenience of a Saturday to get your lung screening done.

Lung screening criteria:
👉 50-77 years old
👉 Currently smoke or quit smoking in last 15 years
👉 Have a least a 20-pack-year smoking history

This month's Healthy Aging Group will meet on Tuesday October 6th and Tuesday October 20th. This group is a place for seniors to discuss and share about various aspects of aging, including mental wellbeing, healthy socializing, navigating life challenges, loss, grief and more.

Nathan Light is a Justice Navigator on the Mobile Response Team for Hancock County, responding to mental health and substance use crises throughout the community. He is passionate about making our corner of the world a better place.

"None of us are immune to mental health, to substance use, or to our circumstances changing suddenly in ways we cannot control. Depression, anxiety, serious mental illness, substance use, and suicidal thoughts are all so much more common than most people realize. If you are experiencing one of these things, you're not alone. If you're not experiencing these things currently, approaching life with the humility to recognize that you could be the next person to need help, and treating everyone with the same empathy that you would want others to show to you, is the best way to build a safe and supportive community for all of us."

🧡 In his line of work, Nathan knows that good mental health is not one size fits all. "Good mental health does not look the same for everyone. It doesn't always look like being completely symptom-free. Often, good mental health looks like being able to function with an appropriate level of autonomy, develop a sense of thriving - not just surviving - in your life, and cope with any symptoms or difficult circumstances that do arise in a healthy way."
