What Heel Position Actually Does for a Hero
Because heel position is not about obedience. It is about giving a Hero a consistent anchor point, no matter what is happening around them.
When our dogs work in heel position, they are not simply walking close. They are maintaining a precise location at the Handler's left side, ignoring foot traffic, shopping carts, other animals, sudden sounds, and everything else a busy public space can produce. That reliability does not come from a single training session. It comes from hundreds of repetitions across dozens of environments, each one raising the level of distraction just slightly.
The finished result looks calm because it is calm. And that calm travels. To a Hero managing a crowded store or a noisy waiting room, a dog who holds position without being reminded is not a small thing. It is a steady point of control in a moment that might otherwise feel unmanageable.
That is what the daily work is building toward.
