“Offering Title: Colours of Resilience
In the quiet corners of my room, surrounded by the remnants of my childhood, I found solace in art. As an orphan who lost my parents to HIV and AIDS, my life
was marked by profound loss, but within that darkness, I discovered a flicker of hope, a chance to express my journey through different styles of art. I began with organised colour drawings on brown paper, a medium that felt both familiar and grounding. It reminds me of who am I, the colour of my skin the dark earthy and reach brown colours of the farmstead. Each stroke/line / scribble was deliberate, a way to impose order on the chaos of my emotions. I would gather my coloured pencils and immerse myself in the process, sketching scenes that reminded me of happier times—sunny days spent laughing with my parents, the
warmth of their embrace. As I filled the brown paper with vibrant hues, I realised that every colour represented a memory, a moment of joy that still lingered
despite the sorrow. Through this meticulous practice, I found a sense of healing, transforming grief into a celebration of life.”

“In sharing my body of work, I invite others to see that even in the face of loss, beauty can be born. Each piece tells a story of transformation, reminding us that light can emerge from the shadows. My journey as an artist is a celebration of life, a manifestation of peace found in creativity, and a beacon of hope for anyone navigating their own path through grief.“

John Adams is a painter/sculptor at his core but a cutting edge creative by heart. The process of creating and not just the depiction of form, it is part and parcel of his creative art.

Each work captures some essence of the human experience. Seeing the humanity reflected in the eyes of each piece. From hope, resilience, growth, and some inbetween emotion that we all experience and can’t put into words, John captures it beautifully.

Join us November 29-December 1 to experience .

“In this body of work, I question human conditions, looking at how our upbringing has so much impact in our future. We can never rewrite history, but it is
upon us how we can use it to our benefit. My focus is on kids, and the youth because I believe we are the ones who can bring about change in our home
situations, help our families escape from poverty and other struggles that they encounter and lastly, we are the ones who can make this world a better
place.
The Future is in our hands, the future has been in the hands of the youth for the longest time.”

After the death
of his mother in 2002, he moved along with his siblings to stay with his stepmother’s family in Zimbabwe, where he learned life lessons the
hard way, being a victim of child abuse, being denied a chance to go to school like any other kid, going weeks without anything to eat, at
times being chased out from the place he considered home, it went further to a point where his sister was r***d by a person they considered
an uncle.
These are amongst the challenges he faced throughout 13 years he lived in Zimbabwe. This was the birth of his talent and gift as he normally
used it to heal, find peace and tell his journey through the use of materials he was surrounded

See ‘s art available for display at Il Portale Ostiense from the 29th of November to December 1st.

Beyond and Behind the Faces of HIV catalogues the lived experiences. All the work we are doing to date is not working. We need a new way to combat HIV. Maybe we need to connect with real people and real stories.

All the stories included in the book are real and versatile stories from people living with and affected by HIV. Each story will touch your heart.

And maybe this book will help us destigmatise HIV, educate, and inspire others.

The book is available on Amazon!
