Decade of Fire (2018, 1h 15m • Dirs. Vivian Vázquez Irizarry, Gretchen Hildebran)

In the 1970s, the South Bronx was on fire. Abandoned by the city government, nearly a quarter-million people were displaced as their close-knit, multi-ethnic neighborhood burned to the ground. While insidious government policies caused the devastation, Black and Puerto Rican residents bore the blame. Decade of Fire exposes the truth about the borough’s untold history and reveals how the community chose to resist, remain, and rebuild.

Screening followed by Q&A with Samuel E Vázquez. Moderated by Dr. Robert Dewey, Chair, History Department, DePauw University.

Special thanks to Vivian Vázquez Irizarry.
